Ordinary un-blended Matilda is not any less smart than a haut. Ordinary un-blended Miles is not appreciably less smart than a haut - you might be able to measure a difference if you really tried, but it doesn't prevent him from competing on their level. And the haut have probably already gotten pretty close to maximizing the human capacity for smart. And a MatildaMiles blend is going to be - "smarter than" might not even be the right phrase, but she's going to be more something than either of her components alone, and it will be a thing that blows past that implied ceiling.

Also, yes, I have only so much capacity to cheat.

...What I might do with a MatildaMiles, if I got a glowfic collaborator who was willing to make substantial contributions to running the world, is put her up against the plot of Animorphs. If I could run her at all, which I'm still not sure I can, that might make for an acceptable level of challenge.

Okay so like...

In one sense, their coping mechanisms mesh really well, in that a StevenChainsaw is nearly guaranteed to end up Not A Serial Killer regardless of outside circumstances - Chainsaws tend to need a certain minimum level of social support to achieve this, and Stevens have similar needs but find them a lot harder to fulfill because of their terror of, like, people.

But under the surface is a vast pit of pain and unhappiness.

And like, they cope really well with this vast pit of pain and unhappiness, and they can figure out by themselves that the feelings of self-hatred and monstrousness are mostly unwarranted and that the tiny grain of truth to them runs along the lines of "there are good reasons why it is socially unacceptable to nonconsensually deprive people of their bones".

Furthermore, the way that they cope tends to give them an easier time making friendly-acquaintances than Stevens, and even somewhat of an easier time than Chainsaws - they have that soft-spoken self-effacing even-keeled public persona, which people tend to find inoffensive-to-likeable.

So, having channeled their dark side into a manageable form and realized that they don't inherently deserve the unhappiness their brains like to inflict on them, they live most of their lives contentedly declining to rock any boats and indulging in deadpan black humour nearly indistinguishable from completely innocent remarks.

Then every so often you piss one off. This hasn't happened onscreen yet, but a genuinely angry StevenChainsaw usually comes about when someone they like or identify with is seriously mistreated or seriously threatened in their presence, and can result in them doing things like threatening to cut someone into small pieces and feed him to giant spiders.

And then there's what happens when they're betrayed by someone they considered a close friend. *digs up chat log*

well your options are pretty much "he finds you while he is still too mad to think and kills you immediately", "he finds you when he has cooled off a little and kills you after an extended and emphatic discussion of how upset he is, with knives", or "he finds you after he has cooled off the rest of the way and kills you while crying"
you will note a certain theme among these options XD

Bells seem averse to fusing, although I haven't presented them with literally all possible fusion partners so it might not be absolute and I'm happy to consider specific ideas.

My other characters are less averse but I haven't thought of any combinations that snap pleasingly into place.

Might a Chelsea fusion develop in interesting ways?

My first thought was "Ivan/Olympian" but they almost seem too similar?

...Bells are not unusual amounts of nope with a Chelsea fusion. Like, they nope it, but not all that much more than they nope other ideas. You'd get something that... if you multidimensionally graphed Bells, a Bellsea would be off in Kiri's direction a bit farther than Kiri is.

Ivans and Olympians aren't actually that similar? They serve comparable roles of "this purple needs their designated attaché", but Olympians fling themselves with glorious abandon into the stuff of their leadertemplates' lives and are romantic interests while Ivans sort of wish it would all go away and are emphatically just relatives. If I fused them I'd still need someone for them to followon to, though, and that would affect enough about the development that I can't speculate too far about where it'd go. Fusing them wouldn't make them more prone to appear alone.

Would a Ivan/Olympian end up with a Joker, JokerSherlock and the sub-category of the later a Mark?

I get the vague impressions that Ivan/Soph is more compatible than Ivan/Lexi because Ivans Lexis are more willing to follow crazy shenanigans than Ivans.

Similarly Olympian/Lexi is more compatible than Olympian/Soph for the reverse reason, albeit I don't think Olympian/Soph have much problems being mixed.

I am not entirely sure what to think about Ivan/Edward, any insight Alicorn?

I try to run a simulation of a Bell being offered to be fused with a Chelsea, and the mental Bell broke a bottle and threatened to cut me open from the inside.
