Plus, if we made them standard, in Incandescence I wouldn't be able to worldbuild as much. And I like worldbuilding.

Ah, I see. I was mostly suggesting because the "standards" would be for stuff that you don't really flash out that much (like translation conventions itself), but maybe you like to create them but don't have the opportunity to show them in your stories...

It occurs to me that, while everyone in Equestria speaks English, they have multiple written scripts, only one of which uses Latin letters. Is that going to lead to any additional complications in its translation convention, or are they all somehow going to be compatible with English?

The Foal Free Press is just barely recognizeable as Latin characters and we're going to say that's a font/alternate alphabet. The hieroglyphs we think are going to be a dead language that Twilight and Clarity have learned to read.

It seems extremely unlikely to me that the hieroglyphs are dead; in addition to appearing in that book, they also appear in this flyer, which is much more recent.

Huh. Darn those animators. Uh, the hieroglyphs are... They look cool and prestigious and things use them to look nifty, the way we might use elaborate calligraphy and/or Latin mottos.
