Not commenting on the thread is harder than expected, and I’ve been busier than expected this week so haven’t even gotten much private information after being dead. Somehow, I still have comments I want to make.

Very true. Being dead isn't ideal.
Still, spectating is fun too, if not as much.

I had a thought. Maybe a private document of some sort could be opened for the dead players to talk to each other in. it could be against the rules to share spoilers like role pms, but they could have somewhere to eat popcorn with each other while they watch us play pin the tail on the donkey.

Okay I want this so bad that I'm going to create something for it. I would have preferred it to be a forum thread so that Alicorn and Nemo could moderate the comments in case there are things dead people should not reveal to each other or something, but annoyingly, there doesn't seem to be a way to make private topics in phpBB without creating a whole subforum just for that topic. So instead, I'm thinking that if other people are interested, I'll make a group hangout. I don't know everyone's google hangout info though, so people will have to give me that if they want to be added.

i think you should add alicorn and nemo to it, whereever it is. they probably have contact info for everyone. ideally whatever format is picked would allow asynchronous conversation (because people are in different timezones). You should probably agree at the start whether the private document would be revealed at the end of the game or remain private. A google docs document could work, though google docs is hard to use on older computers.

A subforum in which threads could only be viewed by people the admin had added to them would be ideal -- especially if we're going to replay games like this in the future. So all the dead players could see the Effulgence Mafia 1 Graveyard thread, but none of the other threads in that subforum, and in future games, the mafia and cults and any other factions could have their own private threads on the forum.

edit to add that your playerlist looks correct to me. and I pre-emptively want in but not until I'm dead of course ;)

@Shoal Alicorn suggested a google doc too but I kindof hate conversing in them. I guess if several people have a preference for a doc over a hangout I will do that instead. And obviously Alicorn and Nemo are invited! I wanted mod control but I guess I have to settle for mod presence. I phrased things as excluding living players so that it would include them, as well as non-players (like kappa) or ex-players (like ozy) in case they want in.

And yeah, that would totally be ideal! I had actually assumed that such things already existed, but sadly it seems like you can only set permissions by *subforum* not by thread. So there would have to be a graveyard subforum for every dead player's society thread and that would be terrible >_<

@pistachi0n Hopefully! Dying is awful because then you KNOW THINGS but you can't TELL ANYONE. However it is pretty great to be able to know things and talk freely with other dead people and get all worked up about all the things the living players are doing, so I'm trying to do my best to maximize that.

My preference is also for not-google-doc but i'm a living player that is not planning on being dead soon so my preferences aren't the most important thing. i confess to not knowing what a hangout is or what is required to access one. definitely approve of kappa and ozy and others having access to it.

setting permissions by subforum does sound kind of fiddly and annoying. not having experience with this, the least annoying solution sounds like: cult subforum (empty now or skip it this round), mafia subforum, dead subforum, people added to each appropriate subforum. after the game, posts moved out of the private subforums into public space and new threads are made for the next game.

but even that might be too annoying to deal with or it may be more complicated than i'm imagining.

Hangouts are the google IM system, and allow for group chats. They're not ideal for this either, but unless someone knows a way to do fancy things to the forum relatively easily, I think they may be our best bet.

do they save backscroll? so you can see what people said in them while you were sleeping? if so, that sounds good enough. i did finally make a google account recently so i could probably use it to hangout when the time comes.
