So several of the worlds in Effulgence have kinds of magic that gives people powers that suit them (eg, Aurum, Eos, Gift). If you were a magic-user from one of these worlds, what do you think your power would be?
To answer my own question and get the ball rolling, I would honestly be super happy with Elspeth's power as it is in canon. However, if I were really going to have a Power That Suits, I'd probably get a power kindof like a reverse-Elspeth, or maybe like a cross between Elspeth and Kerron: rather than having a projective power that enables me to make others understand true things in as fine-grained detail as I please, or a receptive power that lets me see other peoples' goals and intentions in a general sense, I think I'd be more suited to a receptive power that tells me exactly what a person's communicative intent is. Essentially, a supernatural ability to understand layers of meaning. Ideally, this wouldn't be strictly limited to language, but would also get me information conveyed through gaze, expression, body language, and other para- and non-linguistic communicative actions. But I donno, that might be overpowered for any world other than maybe Gift :P
Also, just out of curiosity, if we could get some Word Of God on any notable ways that, eg, Aurum Witchery differs from Eos Ingotry differs from Gift Giftedness in terms of what sorts of powers they provide and how they work, that would also be interesting to hear! Unless it counts as spoilers that belong in Spoilerland, I suppose, in which case we should not hear it in this thread.

I wouldn't think that kind of thing would be spoilery. But I dunno, maybe it is. I'm not sure I can give you anything concrete, anyway, it's mostly just flavour in my head.
I don't know what powers I would get! Lemme think about it...
If I were an ingot I think I'd have Sandy's "inside friends" power, but with Jokers.
If I were a witch... I'm really not sure.
If I had a Gift I think it would be the ability to create and enter little pocket universes where I was locally mostly-omnipotent. I would sort of have a little library of them available, and wherever I was I could disappear into one and people would only be able to follow me if I let them, and I could make planets and stars and large piles of pillows and banquets and anything else I felt like, and then pop out again to wherever I'd disappeared from, and my little universe would be waiting for me the next time I wanted to go there. there would not be people in the little universes unless I brought some in from outside. there might be other kinds of life but they would only be plants or maaaaaaybe poofs.

Re: Powers That Suit
I dont know about gifts. Haven't read about that parts yet.
I also don't understand *why* Aurum-Witches and Ingots are even separate groups, they are so similar.
Anyway... I think that powers that "suit" me as extensions of my personality... I think that Invisibility fits me or at least inaudibility (if possible both), and maybe the ability to create ilusions, which I would use to explain ideas/concepts that I have all the time...

Re: Powers That Suit
They are separate because ingots are stronger than witches. Basically. Also because their powers don't occupy the same... space... like, they're granted through different mechanisms or something like that? There's one witch-power per person and one ingot-power per, and people can have both because they don't conflict. And metapowers that affect their universe's powers either have a hard time with or can't affect other universe's powers. So, even though they look very similar from the outside (besides the power level difference), they are separate things.

Re: Powers That Suit
Yeah, tau's more or less got it.
It's a little bit like... a Nintendo and a Playstation. They're both gaming consoles, and you can play games on both of them, and the games come in all the same genres, but the individual games for each platform are different, and even when the same game is released on both there can be subtle differences. (Are there even games for both Nintendo and Playstation? I don't know off the top of my head. I know there's some games released to multiple consoles but I don't know if there are any for that pair specifically.)

Re: Powers That Suit
I get it how Ingots and Aurum-Witches are different, I don't see why that was necessary. Why did you guys choose that, Eos is a original canon right?
Also, Ingots are stronger?

Re: Powers That Suit
- When we created Eos, we hadn't yet decided to cross it over with anything, and we made ingotry work differently from witchcraft because we weren't really thinking about comparing it to witchcraft that closely in the first place and the way it works makes more sense within the world.
- It makes more sense for different kinds of powers from different universes based on different canons or original ideas to work differently and be different. It would be really weird if all of the kinds of ways people could get personal magical superpowers anywhere in the multiverse were exactly the same and completely interchangeable. And it's more interesting this way, and lets us make people witch-ingots if we want, and witch-ingots are fun.
- Eos is loosely based on some books I haven't read that involve a thing like wishcoins, but the ingotry part was our own invention.
- Yes, ingots are stronger. Gift > ingot > witch, generally speaking.
Re: Powers That Suit
It is still weird, mind you, that Lazarus can see arbitrary magic. From arbitrary worlds. It does seem somewhat odd that "magic" is a natural category that he can see all of.

I think we are straying to off-topic zone.
We should open a topic in storytime?

Re: Powers That Suit
^^I agree with tau.
My Power That Suits would most likely be an observation/awareness thing. It could manifest as an ability that with significant reach would by some function gleam information.
I love being informed, and am most excited about things that are secret, forgotten, unknown or not currently understood--and of course also future events.
