Ooh. In that case, I'll wait for a better reason than my own curiosity.
And also, since I guess I do want to participate in the voting I'll vote for Paradox to perhaps elicit some sort of communication from them.

Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
I'm inclined to believe Alphabeta when they say that michaelblume shouldn't be killed. And also the other stuff. It makes sense. Addy is not the sort of template one would pick to fly under the radar with - I don't think a mafia member would ever say that they're a template someone else is likely to be, because they'll be disproven.
I don't think I have anything to add on the front of who to go after, but Shoal is making me kind of nervous. Shoal, why is it that you don't seem to stick to any sort of opinion besides people should talk more?
What I do have is - Alphabeta, you should grab the death protection power thing, and hold on to it, and protect whoever you deem best. I trust you have more of an idea of the powers floating around than I do. Don't waste your time protecting me. I'm serious, don't. I actually also don't think you should waste a night tasting my power (or lack thereof); either I'm an ordinary townie without powers, or I genuinely believe that my power is useless to you. Not 'not as useful as the protection power,' utterly useless to you.

Ooooh wait Alphabeta, do you lose your power if you try someone without a power?
Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
I... think I need to reread the last couple pages of votes before I decide who to vote for. Alphabeta, I assume you're probably capable of deriving what the template is from a person's power, depending on the power? Would you be willing to tell us, assuming you find a power that matches a template we should kill, that we should kill said person? That way you can work as a sort-of-cop now that we've lost ours? If we can kill all the bad-guys-with-powers then leaving us only the ones without powers would likely leave us in a much better position.
Though alternately Aestrix's idea of keeping the protection power to protect those of us with powers that you want to save also works... I'm not sure how best to use you know that you've revealed yourself, actually. Can we strategize on the best way to use a revealed-Addy that satisfies both your goals and ours? We know we have someone with a protection power, and we know what you can do -- there should be a way to capitalize on this to flush out all the mafia and kill them one by one. Anyone have good strategies?

Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
Maybe we could see if the person with the protection power could protect Alphabeta and then let Alphabeta do whatever they want? I guess we could just let everyone say whether they think it's a good idea or not, and if everyone says yes then assume that whoever has the power is protecting them?
Although, a protection power where weapons just fail is probably a Chris, who is usually attached to a Libby, who might or might not be playing James here. Libby could have what kind of powers? I'd bet on knowing who was Mafia and who was Town. However, this power would be essentially useless to a Mafia member, so I'm tempted on saying any Libby floating around is a Townsperson. Or a person who can choose which side they want to be on at a certain point in time? Or a Cult Leader http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Cult_Leader ? In which case, Chris could have a "Loyal" power http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Loyal or could be a "Seraph Knight" http://wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=Seraph_Knight . And they would be Loyal to the Libby or choose Libby to be protected by their Seraph Knight power. I want to say that a Chris and a Libby on the same side would at least have some kind of separate means of communication the way the Mafia do.
That's all I can figure out right now. Is there anything else we can try to extrapolate from what has been revealed so far?

Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
Libby could also be a perfectly ordinary Mafia Godfather (with or without inspection-immunity), though, so it's kind of strange that you'd immediately assume she was some weird informational role that would be utterly broken, and town.
On the other hand, a Libby could even be a Mason (knows who other Masons are, and that all Masons are town), since vaguely sinister organizations are not necessarily evil.

Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
If the power works like that, sure, mutual protection buddies sounds like a sure fire way to win. The rest of us are doomed, mind, but Alphabeta and protector person would be fine. Assumingly.
Libbies do not actually strike me as a template that is aligned with the mafia. In most continuities they are focused on A. Protecting the people that are close to them and B. Making sure the world doesn't get itself killed. Aelise was messed up, certainly, but she did her immortal witch queen shenanigans because it was the only way she could see to keep the world from blowing itself up. I can't see a Libby purposely working to kill everyone in a town. It doesn't make sense.

So I agree with this:
But I don't necessarily agree with this:Aestrix wrote:I can't see a Libby purposely working to kill everyone in a town. It doesn't make sense.
Libby's origin, after all, is as a genderswapped (-ish, it's confusing) version of James Moriarty. Some instances (e.g. the first one encountered in Effulgence) are quite explicit about running an elaborate criminal empire (a mafia, one might say). That being said, there are probably enough unambiguous bad guys in Effulgence that you could easily put together a mafia without a Libby. But I'd be very wary of blithely assuming a Libby/James is town.Libbies do not actually strike me as a template that is aligned with the mafia.

Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
There seem to be a couple of people who are saying I should talk more and I guess they're right. It's just that the fact that we haven't gotten a single mafia aligned person is making me really paranoid, though of course if everyone got that way there could be no way to run a normal game, so I'll try to say more of my opinions without any crypto stuff. (Although I have to note that I might be even less active than I've been up till now, since my life has been somewhat suddenly unpaused).
Anyway, don't have the time to write everything I'd like atm, so I'll try to fit as much as I can.
1. why I didn't vote last night: I really have no solid suspicions and really didn't want to vote for someone who was town again - and managed to miss the in retrospect obvious fact that yes, less overall votes means more possibility for mafia to hijack the voting.
2. Since this morning I've been completely confused by Alphabeta, no clue whatsover what to think of their role in the game, but his explanation seems to make sense, so.
3. The cryptoed opinions are more like impressions than anything else. I might give the key to them later today, I don't know yet, but I guess I can tell you who I'm suspicious/unsuspicious of without being exact (mostly because I don't have time to be exact..)
In short, people I'm neutral about: futurevision, kuuskytkolme, michaelblume, Paradox, Shoal, tau.
People I'm less suspicious than neutral about: BlueSkySprite, DanielH, jalapeno_dude, Ozymandias, pistachi0n, Alphabeta.
People I'm very very slightly suspicious of: Aestrix, Tamien.
As you can see, it's not very useful, is it... I'm rather starting to think I should scrap this whole list thing and start thinking up who seems/doesn't seem suspicious from scratch. In spite of being paranoid about the unseen Mafia who keep killing us one by one, I'm seem to become trusting of individuals more easily than suspicious of them..
