Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
If you change the private key on the website, it won't change the displayed public key because the UI is horrible, but it will encrypt things with the provided key.

Paradox noted that jalapeno_dude suggested lynching modrony early in the game.
In one of his first posts, jalapeno_dude was open to possibility of lynching but not set on lynching anybody. He could have been trying to avoid suspicion by avoiding controversy.
Later, he emphasized that we had no conclusive proof that Cricket was murdered in the first place. I wonder if he was trying to prevent us from speculating on who the killer could be.

Yep, you got me! I'm the murderer! Rar!
More seriously, I suggested modrony because, as others have argued, it makes sense for the townsfolk to lynch someone the first night, and he had provided a convenient differentiating factor to single him out ("angering the gods"). As DanielH said here, though, he was soon not the only person who had done this...and you'll note that I indeed *didn't* vote to lynch modrony.
(That being said, I got a little more suspicious of him when he seemed to know that the killers knew each other when we hadn't been told that. As he has conclusively been revealed to be not a killer, I guess my brief suspicion was misplaced.)
As for that other post, that was back when at least some of us were attempting to be in character (and my character is not the type to jump to conclusions). Now that we've graduated to crypto, etc, there doesn't seem to be a point in maintaining that.

Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
It's standard for the killers in a game of Mafia to know each other, so it was a fairly safe assumption for him to make, to the point where he might not have even realized it was an assumption.jalapeno_dude wrote:(That being said, I got a little more suspicious of him when he seemed to know that the killers knew each other when we hadn't been told that. ... Actually, I'm pretty sure if the killers didn't know each other, it wouldn't really be a game of Mafia at all, since the game's entire premise is "knowing minority vs unknowing majority".

I’d like to say up front that I will be slow responding during US working hours for this in-game day, and would expect other people to be similarly slowed. I will still be able to talk some, but probably not cryptofairy, during that time. I am not allowed to actually decrypt anything publicly at the in-game night, so if anybody publishes any private keys after US Tuesday night, I would request somebody else try to verify them and report on your findings here. I may or may not get to them Wednesday morning, but don’t count on it.
I would also like to point out that modrony said that BlueSkySprite would look suspicious if she was still alive today, before we all decided she was probably innocent. It’s true; I now find BSS more suspicious than I did on day 1. On the other hand, the killers know that too, so might have purposefully left her alive banking on that suspicion. Finally, Alphabeta responded with crypto, which I find suspicious.
Alphabeta, now that BlueSkySprite is still alive today, but the person with whom you were conversing is dead, do you want to reveal what you were saying there?
BlueSkySprite, do you have any idea why the killers might have left you alive?
Thatwasademo, same question.
Killers, why did you leave BlueSkySprite alive and Thatwasademo alive when they’d self-identified as potentially high-value targets?
MichaelBlume, do you have a reason you have not posted an encrypted or hashed version of your template information? Everybody else except AndaisQ has, and AndaisQ explained that he will be abstaining from crypto because it confuses him. You obviously understand crypto well enough to understand that everybody’s being more complicated than necessary. If you just don’t like the websites we’ve been using, I can adapt to a hash algorithm (though my warning against trusting MD5 stands), and the websites people have been using are compatible with OpenSSL and with various PGP implementations, respectively.

Private key
This unlocks the crypto to which you linked and it alone. Translated, the message reads "The killers could conspicuously not target her to drive us into wasting our second turn." I encrypted it because I didn't want my prediction to invalidate itself.Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread

Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
Probably because I was too obvious in trying to draw their attention to me and they thought I was bulletproof or a bomb or actually normal and just lying about not being normal. As far as I know, I am none of those things. But that's also what I would say if I was, so. I guess I'll just have to gain their distrust by engaging constructively in conversation.DanielH wrote:Thatwasademo, same question.
Re: Effulgence Mafia Game Thread
Well that's what I tried to do. I copied the large private key it had given me before in and tried to encrypt with it and it said "false".DanielH wrote:If you change the private key on the website, it won't change the displayed public key because the UI is horrible, but it will encrypt things with the provided key.
