The obvious thing to do in these situations, of course, is to gather as a community, have some funeral potatoes, and decide, together, in these trying times, who to string up in the town square.

Not much evidence to go on. I guess we’re down to the standards of Means, Motive, and Opportunity.

Opportunity is useless: anybody could have snuck out in the night and done it. People were sleeping and wouldn’t have noticed. I don’t know Cricket’s exact sleep cycle, but he spent enough time awake during the day despite being feline that even he probably spent some time asleep at night. Meanwhile, from the killer’s perspective, missing one night of sleep isn’t a big deal, and I can’t see anybody who looks particularly tired.

Means is almost as useless: we all know that our God is the mean one, and She is unlynchable. It does cast some suspicion on Aestrix, PlainDealingVillain, and adaisq, because they’re also glowfic writers and thus mean, but that isn’t as much to go on.

Motive, however, gives us something to work with: it’s well known that Cricket dislikes most people, and while some may consider this motive enough, we’re probably looking for something bigger. Who has the most reason to dislike Cricket? Well, what did Cricket do with his time? He was a cat. Other than sleeping, which wouldn’t get most people mad, and being grumpy and/or disdainful, which we already discussed, he ate. He ate animals, especially rodents, fish, and birds. Either no.head.chicken and Shoal could have feared Cricket could have attempted to eat them. It’s probably one of them.

This fear I’m supposing wouldn’t have been very reasonable, because Cricket didn’t actually eat people and wouldn’t have even if they were avian or piscine, so this fear is no excuse. It also doesn’t help us narrow down between the two. Except: we know Shoal likes at least one cat, so probably wouldn’t have feared Cricket. Furthermore, no.head.chicken has an obvious injury which could have come from a non-Cricket cat, so she might hold a grudge.

Thus, I think we should lynch no.head.chicken. I plan to vote this way in about 45 hours, unless anybody has a counterargument, convinces me I mis-weighted the evidence and should go for one of the Means instead, or otherwise shows me that doing so is a bad idea.

Honestly, I wonder if the best thing to do with a day start like this is to just not kill anyone, or if that's even allowed?

@Thatwasademo: You are allowed to not lynch. "No Lynch" is an acceptable vote and differs from abstention (which leaves picking who you lynch to whoever chooses to vote) although if everyone abstains, no lynch.

Further, we will end days prematurely if there is a 3/4 majority voting a particular way, to jostle things along.

In that case, I also vote No Lynch. I’m used to play starting at night, and I believe that option makes more sense.

That said, we should take advantage of this day to get to know each other so that the first death of a non-innocent (setting aside any arguments that cricket isn't innocent at all) actually has some information attached.
