Re: Ask The Alethiometer!
Are alethiometer results only meant for the asker to puzzle out? I have some ideas but I'm not sure I should say them :P

Re: Ask The Alethiometer!
globe = world
walled garden = contains
sword = ??
compass = measure
From that, I'd guess something close to Shoal's guess: "As much as there is in the world", but that leaves out whatever meaning the sword has.
According to this page, the sword stands for justice, fortitude, and the Church. Which, uh, mostly doesn't really seem to apply here. I'm going to go with "fortitude" as the best lead and go with "As much as it is able (given the constraints of its own strength and the amount of wood in the world)." However, it's also possible though that we're punning on "just" and the answer is something like, "Just as much as there is in the world."

Re: Ask The Alethiometer!
Heh. Pretty good!
One of the other canonical meanings of the sword (for once I'm using a canonical meaning!) is "not".
Also, the whole phrase is an answer you've seen before in Effulgence, although it wasn't mentioned at the time which symbols were used.
The compass doesn't quite mean "measure" here, but that's sort of vaguely in the right ballpark, a little bit...
