I've been astounded at the quantity of glowfic you've turned out, but I can't deny I've missed the updates in your other works too, so I think this is a win for me so long as you keep writing... :-) Hope you're able to get your other stories back under you, but also hope that there's more glowfic on the way too, because I like the stuff!
I love your writing, and thank you so much for sharing it with us all. Take as much time off from glowfic as you need (even if that's all of it*); I'll keep reading whatever you write!

Glowfic Break
Re: Glowfic Break
Depending on the definition of “super-being”, the glowfic produced might not resemble current glowfic very much.cbhacking wrote:If you should become an immortal super-being at some point before your intelligence is erased from this existence, I will/would be somewhat shocked if you don't/didn't return to glowfic at some point...
Re: Glowfic Break
I recommend that you upload and fork yourself as soon as reasonably possible; this should solve the "can't do both" problem, if I understand correctly.

Yes, but open a lot of questions regarding what counts as "canon" or not.Lambda wrote:I recommend that you upload and fork yourself as soon as reasonably possible; this should solve the "can't do both" problem, if I understand correctly.

Plus, it won't solve the problem of the glowfic author forrk needing to be able to write.

Re: Glowfic Break
Nah, if I forked that would solve everything. We could glowfic with ourself. Let me know if anybody comes up with a way to do it :P

Re: Glowfic Break
This question may be nonsensical, but if you forked, what color(s) would you/your fork choose for your moiety, and how would you split up who would write which of your characters? (Or would you mix and match depending on who felt like writing which characters for a given story, or something?)

I am know picturing several alicorns with different shades of green and with a shirt that labels the characters they play "Bells", "Sophs" or "Ivans".Tamien wrote:This question may be nonsensical, but if you forked, what color(s) would you/your fork choose for your moiety, and how would you split up who would write which of your characters? Re: Glowfic Break
We'd take shades of green ("viridian", "jade", more if there were more of us) and probably wind up dividing characters based on what was convenient at the time; certainly we would both/all get some Bells.

Re: Glowfic Break
It's been a week!
My results were neither as fantastic as I hoped nor as dismal as I feared. I did complete Water (about half of it was written before I took my break, and then Thursday I wrote a few hundred words, and then I wrote the rest in a marathon on Friday). I did some AUSJ stuff over on my Tumblr, one new setting and a few things prompted by asks. (I never send myself asks for those; they are unscheduled bursts of creativity from readers and I try to answer them as fast as I can, so only the new setting can possibly be attributed to the break, and that's tenuous.)
I wrote like four lines of Goldmage and got stuck again.
I did some really major plot detangling of Elcenia, but wrote no actual words of story - I've determined that the next order of business there is to finish Siaddaki, which I don't think will wreck anything else even if I write "forwards", and I've decided on a sort of an arc shape for the section "Sashpark" that it didn't have before as an artifact of the aimlessness of Elcenia's origins. I'm re-reading Siaddaki extant right now.
The transition period was not as difficult as I expected. In a way, it was almost pleasant - I felt slightly less glued to my computer, I think my sleep schedule was marginally improved, I stayed on top of household chores a little better. But none of the improvements were sufficient to justify the boredom (although surprisingly it didn't get bad enough for me to resort to Flash games) and the fact that I'd be leaving stories hanging.
Here's where I'm at now.
- No progress whatsoever has been made in rekindling Aestrix's interest in Incandescence. If you have any bright ideas, do tell (though let's do that in a different thread). Incandescence is still looking likely to require the "decent burial" treatment. This is intensely saddening, but I agree with Aestrix that it's probably better to put it to rest than leave it hanging open forever hoping that lightning will strike.
- Kappa's brain is still kappa's brain, so progress on kappa things will be irregular as usual, but Effulgence burial is not looming imminently.
- I am still very wary of starting new longform glowfics. I will need to talk to Marri about the already-in-progress "Witchlight"; for everything else, I'd rather to keep it to sandbox levels unless you come up with miraculously convincing shows of long-term commitment.
- That said, I am intrigued by the idea of finding ways to cowrite things with my brilliant fellow creators that does not strictly involve glowficcing.
- I may take another glowfic break, probably a week or shorter, if I feel like I'm poised to make progress on something and too scattered to actually do it. That time is not right now, at least not until I figure out what I'm doing very-next in Siaddaki.
- If I have a sandbox open with you and you want to pick it up, let me know. I feel like I might benefit from clearly scheduled times at which you intend to tag me, to whatever extent this is possible for you.
- If you are feeling underfed with Alicorn fic you can always squeeze a few paragraphs out of me with AUSJ asks. It doesn't even have to be a cunning ask. Send them racist anon hate, if you like (do stick to fantasy racism).
