Uh, huh, wow. I interpreted that as every time she transforms not every time she becomes a magical girl. That interpretation is waayyyy darker.
Kappa: Have you seen The Rebellion Story? it's the third PMMM movie. The first two just retell the show but Rebellion adds new stuff to it and it's kinda crazy.

I haven't seen Rebellion. I hear bad things about it and was going to ignore it; does anyone have an alternative suggestion?

It's the usually deal with additions to amazing shows: half the fandom loves it, half of it loathes it. All I can say is that you'll either love it or loathe it. I do recommend finding out which it is, though, because the people who like it really seem to like it.
(I, personally, haven't seen it yet, what with the torrents only recently appearing.)

I've seen it and had mixed feelings. It was well crafted, and there were parts that I really liked, but ultimately I felt like it was too big of a break with previously established worldbuilding and characterization for me to really get behind it. Nevertheless, I'd recommend watching it to form your own opinion.

Rebellion feels to me like just a thing for the fans to get excited over; to set up the plot for a second season.
Shaft screwed with the characterization of some characters to do that, and I loathe that.

I mean, I didn't notice much OOC. Or any. Apart from The Rebellion Story Spoiler, which was less "[charactername] is acting weirdly to advance the plot" and more "[charactername] has lost her moral compass entirely, plan accordingly."
Which I guess might still piss some people off, but it makes sense in context and it fits with how she's always worked as a character. Plus we get a bunch of cool effects and a rockin' costume, so I was okay with it.
(Fun fact: I was going to write this in gender-neutral language to avoid giving hints to the character's identity, but then I realized there are no significant male characters in the series except arguably Kyuubey [who is exempt from this spoiler due to the fact that he had no moral compass in the first place]. Excellent.)

I have not seen Rebellion. Going by what I've heard about it here, I'm not sure I should.

Your mileage may vary of course, but Rebellion certainly wasn't for me.
