The version of Milliways seen in glowfic is from an open RP sandbox I played in which in turn got it from a more structured game I also played in which in turn got it from Douglas Adams.

That reminds me; I’ve been meaning to ask something for a while.

I’ve seen glowfic described as a subgenre or distinct from other forms of Dreamwidth RP stuff. Having never seen non-glowfic Dreamwidth RP, what are the primary differences?

Dreamwidth (and before it, Livejournal) RP is a huge interconnected subculture with a bunch of different sub-subcultures that share certain commonalities while differing on stylistic and narrative conventions. I woul call glowfic its own sub-subculture, distinguished in particular by how each glowfic continuity (Effulgence, Incanescence, Pixiethreads, Starry Matrix, Resplendence, etc.) is produced by a fixed subset of The Glowfic Authors. One can become a glowfic author by hooking up with an existing glowfic author to produce some glowfic.

Absolutely not, to become a Glowfic author you must fight each previous glowfic author and then collect twelve tears from readers in a glow gem of power.

Are you aware of any other non-glowy culture? If Glowfic is a sub-subculture what subculture it is part of?

panfandomsandbox and mixed_muses on DW are the open sandboxes I frequented before I started glowficcing.

I should add that one of the other key differences is that most glowfic authors, except for me and I think maybe Aestrix, didn't do any DW RP before starting to glowfic - so the level of overlap between our community and the LJ/DW RP community at large is unusually low.

Any interesting picks from those?

I used to do a lot of messageboard D&D, but I never did this format of RP before Effulgence.

I'm curious about something Milo's mother said here:
Duchess Celyta of Raxwell wrote:If she was a good witch, she would […] almost certainly not have been defeated by clever children and left all her things for Ainar and I to deal with.
Does this mean that good witches are very rarely defeated by clever children, or that upon being defeated the belongings would have gone elsewhwere? If the former, is this because the children wouldn't attempt it, or because evil witches are easier to defeat?

I read it as “the children would not be able to defeat her”, but even in a fairytale land made of cotton fucking candy, this seems difficult to believe. If it is so patently obvious in this world that evil witches are much easier to defeat, such that the Duchess would say it like it was one inferential step away and neither child present objects, that completely gets rid of most incentive to be an evil witch (there is no thought that you can get away with it).

Also, when does this take place relative to extradimensional space? Am I correct in my guess as to the author of the evil boring cace book?

I don't know who you're guessing wrote the evil boring cave book. Its author is not explicitly specified but I'm thinking of it as that one book from canon about the Caves of Fire and Night.

Clever children don't defeat good witches because there is no need for them to defeat good witches because good witches do not try to do nefarious things to children.
