...Dungeon Keeper Ami is a crossover between Sailor Moon and Dungeon Keeper? I love both of those things and have no idea how they'd interact with each other, let alone with a Bell.

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
As I told Alicorn just now:
What's a Dungeon Keeper?
edit because my brain is apparently running with this one:
On the other hand, I can't imagine a Bell and a Joker easily agreeing on the principles on which to found their order; on the gripping hand, I can imagine them not having much choice about working together, because their mere existence would piss off both the dominant sects...
...and why am I now imagining the prequel films with a Joker as Anakin and a Bell as Padme? HELP.
Also, Sithzerland. :D :D :Dme, over IM wrote: I'm really entertained because like. The Jedi are all, "We are the Good Ones and in service of being the Good Ones we abandon strong emotion and personal desires", and the Sith are all "Strong emotion and personal desires are great, and so is backstabbing and torture and generally gratuitous evil fuckery!" and I can imagine both a Bell and a Joker looking at this selection and going "...no"
for very different reasons

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
Dungeon Keeper is an awesome strategy game from the 90s. You play as the Keeper of a dungeon who is trying to take over the world, and you have to build your dungeon up and attract and train minions and develop spells and traps to protect yourself from all these damn heroes who keep invading your dungeon and trying to thwart you. It's tremendous fun and if you're into strategy games or like, any sort of building/designing games, really, I recommend it.

Keeper Ami is great! I highly recommend.
No pre-knowledge requred.
I really enjoyed it through I have not played DM nor watched a single episode of sailor moon.
I did know both of those thing existed thou.

Suppose you have a regular run-of-the-mill magical girl series with monsters of the week, evil villains, cute heroines and the assorted hotchpotch - you know the drill. Now, you'll probably know some characters in those shows that are more intellectual, and have a more strategical and planning mind than their team mates. Ami is one of those.
On the other hand, there is a world influenced by the forces of Good and Evil, by Light and Dark Gods. They cannot act directly, though, necessitating intermediaries. For the evil side, Keepers fill this role. They build subterranean dungeons, brimming with traps and monsters and necessary infrastructure. They're a blight on the world, corrupting it, hence heroes and Light opposing them.
As to how both universes meet: In the Sailors' most recent pursuit of the villain, the bad guy tried to throw his pursuers off with portal shenanigans. It actually worked, somewhat - Ami was left behind when one of the portals closed too fast for her to get through. She wakes up in a dry, dark cave. Frightened, she takes a look around only to see a huge red-skinned creature bulging with muscles and most hideous. This, my dear reader, is a Reaper. Tricked into an uneasy partnership at the cost of her soul to boot, Ami is literally damned and has to rely on the Reaper to be able to find a way back home.
The world she landed in, however, is terminally differing from her own - magic is prevalent, Light and Dark Gods exist and the technology seems to be stuck in an medieval stasis. How do YOU think a scientifically minded good person given an inherently evil toolset will fare?
One of the great pluses of the story is its enjoyability even without any knowledge of either canon. "

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
I think Lucas said somewhere that attempts to be neither Jedi nor Sith ended up at the dark side, but now that Disney owns Star Wars who the hell knows. Besides, Star Wars fans tend to have a love-hate relationship with canon at the best of times.
I enjoyed Dungeon Keeper Ami before the website started being stupid at it, but a Bell from the DK world of that fic would probably not be tricked into losing her soul the way Ami was, due to having nonzero background knowledge.

Jokers in circumstances where Everyone Would Just Be Evil don't turn out evil. That is pretty solidly a thing. See also: Aianon.
Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
I don't think Amis choice to use the Heart was an unrational one.
It was binary choice: Use unknown magic artifact or starve/suffocate underground. She had no reason to expect to lose her soul or even reason to believe souls existed.
Furthermore a heart in an awesome tool for consequentialist good.
You do lose your soul and get a large reputational disadvantages but you gain a position of power to help others. (useful luxury)
Half of the population lives in near utopia, but other half lives in evil_for_evils_sake dystopia and neither side does anything besides attack another to correct the situation.
Become a keeper and attack another keeper. Free 2 slaves otherwise slated for sacrifice and eject those to a light temple.
Already your net effect on the world is positive( 1 soul damned, 2 spared from being digested by dark gods)
This might not appeal to a light-side-bell but I think it would for one born in the underworld (dark elf?) or to a Libby on either side.
Underworld is pragmatic so it is actually possible if hard to effect behavioral change. It is actually more efficient to refrain from random torture of your underlings than not to. If you do this and succeed there is non-zero chance the change will propagate. Less net torture Yay!
Many underworld citizens are genuinely evil only because there is no choice. If they are seen by light-siders they get killed so where else would they live than dungeons or underworld and those force you to torture/kill or be trampled. Imagine you could offer a third option? Is this worth your soul? Is it worth a large number of other souls not to?
+ the universe has a clear place for a Dark-God-Addy!

Oh and I recommend Narbonic as Girl Genius alternative although Bella lacks the pre-req madness for mad science.

Re: Effulgence Fandom Ideas
I never read the book, but did anyone suggest Maze Runner?
This suggestion might be purely so we get to see a bunch of guys cuddlepile in the glade. Campbell + Stark Twins cuddle pile being the best ^_^

Most Underworlders are pragmatic, from what we've seen. The ones that actually become Keepers seem to be either chosen for being actually evil instead of pragmatic, or conditioned into being such. Further, a native would probably know that the dark gods are more able to punish Keepers than nonKeepers, though they probably wouldn't know the precise mechanism until it was used against them.modrony wrote:I don't think Amis choice to use the Heart was an unrational one.

Mind, these difficulties are probably surmountable.
