Alicorn wrote:Wow, what a question. I think I could probably justify any distribution of the three in a three-sibling Swan set. None of them feature the Bell power attractor... the precognition was fairly invasive, and might be ruled out for the Bell on roughly the same grounds that Slayer visions were ruled out for Juliet, but I could give her Piper or Prue's power without a qualm, and I could give the Alex or a Soph anything. I think the siblings would probably prefer a distribution of time-freezing Bell, precog Alex, and telekinetic Soph. I'd be tempted to give a telekinetic Soph Paige's version of the power for aesthetic reasons but if either of the twins got the teekay instead they'd get the Prue version.
What do you mean with "aesthetic" reasons? I think Paige version of the power was due to her half-angel nature, not sure how the variation works. It would even be possible for Soph to be only a half-sibling?

(Now I am picturing Charlie dying and becoming a angel-from-charmedverse-that-I-dont-remember-the-name)

The preferences do sound right, I don't quite think that Alex would be happy with precog, but it involves less "Okay, okay. I will go there and deal with this in person, just let me dress Bella". Precog Bell would be a nightmare to her siblings.

Sophs have a kind of light motif (this isn't very obvious yet, but when there are places to tuck it in I add it). So the visuals of orbing work better than things just sliding around without any special effects for a Soph. I don't think I'd make her a half-sibling, though, I'd have to have another excuse or just go "it's an AU who cares". (You're thinking of Whitelighters.)

An Alex would be happier with precognition than the other powers because the extent of her reasonable involvement would be to brief her sisters on what she saw and then go back to recreating while they dealt with it. She wouldn't have any reason to directly resent them for making her do things.

(Whitelighters!)

I know that part-whitelighters are supposed to be rare and the templates attractors don't favor Charlie, but maybe you could have Charlie being a some-small-fraction whitelighter? He wouldn't have any powers but he could have enough genetic/hereditary traits to pass to Soph.

Urgh, I forgot to end that train of thought, sorry.

Well, first, saying that Alex wouldn't be happy was a mistake, more correctly, any power she gets has its ups and downs because she is attached to her Bell (at least more than Soph). I think Alex would suffer from a level of jealousy similar to Phoebe, she would want a more active and showy power but ultimately precognition suits her better given the circustances (as you said, she would only need to brief her sister, than return to whatever activity). So in short, I am agreeing with you >_>

I predict that Adarin would not be able to cope with dating Miles Vorkosigan because paranoia

I wonder what ghost-Aliya-on-Kystle would do if they just resurrected Nereus and sent him to her.

Peal: *resurrects Nereus and shoves him in Aliya's direction*

Aliya: "..." *girlish squeal*
Nereus: "HOLY FUCK SHE IS TURNING INTO A WORLD EATING ABOMINATION!"
Aliya: *clings to Nereus* "I'll totally stop, I just have a slice of ultimate cosmic power instead of all of it?"
Nereus: ".... I am okay with this."
Aliya: "Eeeeeee!" *they go off into the sunset, quasi-consent present on both sides*

Lynn: "... WTF."

(Note: This is a dramatization.)

How Adarin and Zev would react to this?

Adarin: "..."

Adarin: "Our parents are terrible people."
Zev: "Yup."
Adarin: "So why do they make a surprisingly cute quasi-consentual couple?"
Zev: *shrug*

Say a Bell is killed, and then a slightly mentally tweaked clone is made and advanced to the same age as the Bell was at death. When the clone comes to, they are provided with the journals of their previous 'self', which go up until some plausibly recent span of time for them to have had some sort of "accident" that knocked out their memory and then recovered. How soon until they start noticing discrepancies between the 'self' recorded in the notebooks and the self they actively experience? Which do they consider more valid? Would they suspect tampering in themselves or in their journal? How big would the discrepancies have to be for them to suspect tampering had happened? Do they ultimately consider themselves to be a continuation of the dead Bell, a new Bell in their own right, or something else?

I'd have to know more about the mental "tweaking", and the other features of the environment (like, is everybody the Bell knows in on this? do the notebooks contain any mention of nonfictional mind-tweaking capabilities in this world? or for that matter is cloning known to be doable? are we assuming that the clone gets scars to match the old Bell's?)

I don't know what "valid" means here but suspect Bells wouldn't even find that concept an interesting thing to question. You'd wind up with something between Izzy/Ara (who are going to wind up behaving very much like a single unit in a lot of respects but won't actually fully share notebooks) and the Cycle set (who do share notebooks and, at least on reaching the relevant ages, consider themself basically one person with an inconvenient amnesiac disorder and convenient immortality with chapter markers for discussing the past).
