There should be an Effulgence thread
Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
But is it metacausally punny?

Not especially. The labyrinth references are embedded in the canon already, and Dr. Hall's name is incidental to the template; I'm unlikely to make hall puns about them.

You said how long Linya's hair was in feet (5 or 6 i can't recall), but how long is that in practical terms? Down to her ankles? Floor length? Calf length? I don't know how tall she is, but I guess fairly tall since she is haut.

Linya's hair is five and a half feet long and she's 5'10", so it doesn't quite sweep the floor.
Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
Calf length I guess, then, close to ankle. Thanks.
So, Cordelia's last name was Naismith before it was Vorkossigan and it seems like the sort of information that would be easy to find out, even just finding a little about family history and then keeping up with galactic news and politics and knowing who the major players are, it seems Miles Naismith of the Dendarii mercenaries would be somewhat well known. I know in cannon his secret identity is super secret and hardly anybody knows who he is, but I dunno, it just seems like wearing a napkin on your head and expecting people to not be able to recognise you.

I think in the book that Nexus is retelling right now, he does come up with an okay cover story for it?

Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
He develops a pretty excellent excuse in the course of this plot, yeah :3
Anyway, the wormhole nexus is a big place with lots of people and lots of information about those people. Most people Miles just casually meets in either identity will have had no reason at all to have ever heard of the other one. Admiral Naismith isn't especially famous in galactic terms, and neither is Lord Vorkosigan.
People who have heard of both of them certainly have cause to be suspicious... but originally that set of people is not all that large. And as it grows, well: excellent excuse.

Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
In my cannon reading, I am still at that book where Miles was in that cold place working at the weatherstation and then the Dendarii have become the Oser mercenaries and he is in the process of fixing that. So I am way behind (but I like spoilers so don't hold back on account of me).
Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
spoilers for todays effulgence
Miles seems to have forgotten that he told Linya that his condition is not genetic but teratogenic, and she would have known from her work on little Aral that this is true, and that his clone would be 6 feet tall

Re: There should be an Effulgence thread
Miles is implying - less overtly than he did in canon - that the Naismith clone was created as part of a substitution plot, and surgically altered to match him. He expects the reporter to pick up on that idea without him feeding it to her, and if Linya doesn't come up with the idea by herself, he can (with great reluctance) explain it to her the first time she asks.
