I don't think I can give direct advice on how to do it, though, other than "play with sounds and don't get too attached to strict rules if you can get better results by tweaking them".
Gift names are hard to pronounce sometimes (or think how they are pronounced in my case), but they do contribute to the sense of... otherness in that world.

I am going for "soft alternate history", "regular" names are still around in the equivalent Earth cultures (like John, Isabella, Charlie or Jessica for the US), but there are entirely new cultures around, and those need the new names more.

I probably will follow the advice and see where it gets me... I might post my results here. Thanks.

Ferix was the name of very old character that I created like... when I was fourteen or something. I like the idea of re-using it for the new Ferix.

How off or awkward it sounds? I am not sure about the language of origin yet. Originially Ferix was an alien, "ix" was a family thing and "r+ix" was for the group of siblings (which included such amazing things as Furix, Torix and Marix). This time around "Ferix" was supposed to be an alternate version of "Felix" and the twins are theme-named.

Was just thinking of my Mal character and have written a list of names she would have in different worlds.

?: Amala, Immortal, female, highlander
Lee: Lee Amal, human, male, OUAT
Aladdin: Aladdin, human, male, Disney
Hawke: Mallorie Hawke, mage, female, Dragon Age
Lia: Amalia, immortal, female, original
Ren: Mallorie Loren, witch, female, Buffy
Kara: Amalia Kara, cloudpine witch, female, HDM
?: Mallorie Loren, witch, female, HP

Mals have 'mal' in their names 90% of the time, which is why their template is called that. Alternatively they have the sound "lee", which can be spelt any way. Aladdin at one point is called Prince Ali, which is where I got 'Lee' from.

Aladdin is the original template, which then lead to Lee, which lead to Hawke, which lead to the unnicknamed Amala.

I sort want to have an template based on non-OC, but can't quite come up with any good idea or any idea that I would actually invest time (Like a Gilderoy Lockhart template).

So anyway

I have a template that I still figuring out the name rules, so I calling up the wisdom of this forum for help.

The Official Standard Template Alt ™ is called "Adam Whitepond" The rules for his naming as I figure could be:
1) First names with some connection to the concept "innocence", "youth" or even biblical names. It can apply to names connected with the loss of innocence as well. Adam, Eve, Innocence, Purity, Noah, Lilith, Jezebel, Jesus, Mary, Cain, Abel etc.
2) First names somehow similar to "Adam". Adam, Alexander, Adamina, Andrew, Alexander, (and the following made up on the spot names) Arda, Adamaniel, Adriacus, Liradamus.
Not sure each way is best. The first option has a interesting theme, but doesn't translate well to settings with non-earth names. The second version is sounds too similar to Adarins. Combining them both sounds a little to broad for a template rule? >.>

Also, the last name is better defined. The default is "Whitepond" and is usually something that means "white". I haven't thought in Adam for the world of skin-deep but his family name there is called "Whitefang".

I'd suggest waiting until you have situations for him to figure it out. Planning out too many details in advance will probably just lead to obsessing about it.

That being said, I have felt out a similar idea for my Arthurs in thinking about how he would fit into existing glowfic settings. He'll be named Arthur usually (and so far a different last name each time, since I don't have a standard family or situation for him to make it fixed), but where that's inappropriate, he'll be named something that sounds similar to Arthur or another name that calls back to a mythical figure, if possible a mythical king. (ex. in India or an India-inspired world he would probably be named Rama.)
