Lumos Plot Suggestions

Post by Alicorn »

So if you're following "Lumos" (1 2 3) with me and Marri sending a Bell and a Kanim and some of Marri's characters to Hogwarts together, you may have noticed that we don't actually have a plot. This is true: we don't actually have a plot. Any suggestions?

Deathly hallows? I forget what happened to them in canon but you could decide things and then have characters find them. Or maybe Miranda is researching the philosopher's stone and comes across somebody else who is also researching it, for either good or bad purposes. The dada teacher could turn out to be evil, that's nice and traditional. Oh but they're a Marri aren't they. (What's Marri's moiety colour?) Maybe the teacher is not evil but the curse on the position is legit and calamities befall? Idk I'm in bed and these are my sleepy notions.

The Elder Wand was destroyed, Harry has his cloak, I think the Resurrection Stone is just sort of lost in the forest so they could find that and that would definitely be interesting. Philosopher's Stone also possibly interesting. I think the curse on DADA is broken now that Voldemort is dead, but there might be something in that neighborhood we could use. I don't think Marri has picked a moiety color.

I thought Miranda got the wand?

Reuniting the 3 hallows properly could be useful for true immortality seeking projects?

Maybe Miranda goes on the hunt against Dementors too?

Miranda got a secondhand chimaera-hair wand which does not appear in HP canon.

Much though Jenny will be disappointed with me for not picking bright pink, I will go with red XD

Plot ideas that have been tossed around so far:
  • They find an artifact somewhere that allows them to translate things. They use this to translate old scrolls and rediscover lost spells. What these old spells are and how they are useful, not clear.
  • Some other country realizes that hey, a huge battle just happened here, the school's rather weakened and disorganized, we should take advantage of that! But this requires deciding things like "which country(ies) decide this" and "what do they try to do" and "how do our characters discover/stop this".
  • Miranda goes Dementor hunting. Having a place for them to encounter a Dementor in the first place is proving harder, since they're no longer used in Azkaban and are presumably in hiding post-Battle of Hogwarts.

The Dementors discovered the stone and can use it to eat a infinite supply of souls and grow in numbers

Or maybe ONE dementor did this and is becoming a super-dementor

Someone named J.K. Rowling publishes a book called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. In the Muggle press. Hilarity/panic/drama ensues. (If I'm getting the timeline right, actually, the first two books would already have been published in the UK by the start of Miranda et al's first year (September 1998), so you'd have to handwave a little bit.)

For bonus weirdness: one of the Lumos characters, returning home for vacation, happens to be seatmates with Rowling on a certain trainride, when Rowling asks to borrow a pen...

For double bonus weirdness: same as above, but this version of the story has these mysterious soul animals called daemons in it...

Other, slightly less meta ideas (though I'd in all seriousness be thrilled if you went with the meta ones I just proposed!):

-Miranda learns about the Room of Requirement and flips the fuck out.
-Run with Marri's idea about artifacts and scrolls, and tie it into Atlantis, as portrayed in either HPMOR or H.P. and the Wastelands of Time.
-Possibly in combination with the above: in the destruction of the Battle of Hogwarts, the door to Salazar Slytherin's secret library inside the Chamber of Secrets comes unsealed...
-Restoring Slytherin House, ala HPMOR, possibly in combination with the above. (Might require retconning some more of the characters to be in Slytherin.)
-The goblins decide they're tired of being second-class magical citizens. (More-or-less politely, and more-or-less sympathetically, according to taste.)
-The wizarding world tears itself apart (again, more-or-less literally according to taste) over disclosing its existence to the Muggles.

I vote for the Roooooom of Requirement! I would spend soooo many hours and days and years just wandering the Room of Hidden Things.

But they did set it on fire in the 7th book, but I'm sure you can hand-wave that only some of it was destroyed, because magic.
