Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer? I haven't been able to get the idea of a Joker Spirit-Eater out of my head since it first got in there. Probably not going to actually happen, given that it's a video game, but it's one of those ideas which just has too much potential to completely not mention.

Okay, pitch it to me - what's a Spirit-Eater? XD

Basically, it's a curse, affecting one person at a time and transmitted by proximity to the corpse of its previous bearer. Its bearer has an insatiable hunger-type feeling towards spirits that hang around the world, along with the ability to "consume" them. The consumption kills the spirit, heals the spirit-eater, and temporarily staves off the hunger. The hunger can be temporarily suppressed, but it's not sustainable in the long-term. That said, spirit-eaters occasionally figure out new tricks for manipulating the hunger (such as being able to consume undead things, or feeding on bits of themselves in order to avoid the need to consume anyone else). The main plot of the game is about the player character (who is the spirit-eater) trying to find a way to shut the curse down in a fashion which isn't unsustainable. Or totally giving in to the hunger and becoming a god-eating monstrosity, I guess, but that seems like less of a Joker-ish way to go.

XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Yes, as cool as "god-eating monstrosity" sounds, I feel like "manage this shitty fucking ghost addiction" is the likelier path.

I would be totally on board with MotB. It continues the NWN tradition of the expansion packs being a thousand times better than the original campaign, I won't touch NWN 2 anymore (Act I is so slow paced that it makes me want to gouge my eyes out every time Elanee talks) but MotB, I'll play every now and then. I love Rashemen, I love the spirit's logic, and I love every character MotB throws me. Except One of Many, screw that guy.
