Neva author thread

Post by Neva »

I put up a version on my own blog here, copying the current version here also.

Um, I’m new and don’t know what I’m doing…

To put this up front, a lot of my stuff was designed for kink reasons and it shows. Am glad to adjust on-screening for people’s comfort etc.

(Note, a bunch of names have been changed from what I would otherwise use.)

(Especially for characters but also for worlds can likely pull in some other ones too but these are the ones hanging around in thoughts for this already at the moment.)

Worlds

Blue: Magic-threaded location, magic benevolent Empress. Would probably not be a very interesting setting due to not having plot to tie into, but could be a reststop of some sort. Homeworld of Del.

Reyna: main country I work with on a larger planet. High tech, magic, generally nice government. A few interesting potential things for people born there. At the moment I do not believe they have planetary-space neighbors, though could be easily put in a universe where they would. Probably not interested in being a primary setting but would be glad to be around, send delegations, etc.

River sparks (preindustrial enslaved mages): Three groups separated by a forked river. One is a mageocracy, one enslaves mages (pretty horribly), one doesn’t do either but is very xenophobic. Outsiders born there could potentially be mages. Glad to be a setting or send visitors. Could use intervention. Homeworld of Aye and Genea.

Enslaved mages: Pretty much Earth-derived but has mages, who are enslaved. Somewhat convoluted deal with mages kept by secret agencies and trained to sometimes pretend to be human agents. Glad to be a setting or send visitors. Could use intervention. Homeworld of Elvira.

Imperial: Medieval-esque with magic artifacting. Empire has conquered pretty much everyone. Conquering nobility takes some amount of conquered nobility as consort(-hostages). Glad to be a setting, probably not sending visitors atm. Could possibly use intervention.

Characters

Del (sometimes with Janyce)
(as local)

Homeworld is Blue.

The Empress. Can help people on a stopover. Probably can’t travel herself, could potentially send Janyce. I might be able to get her a ‘split off version of herself’ power.

Del (as template)

(haven’t tried yet but want to)
  • * High morality, high responsibility.
    * Depending on details might be relevant to a local magic or power system
    * Strategic self-sacrifice
    * Likes reaching out to people
Xeyr, M, and Jewel
(as visitors)

Homeworld is Void (which is not an available world itself).

Xeyr involuntarily travels in time and space by dying. M brings Jewel to follow her. They’re usually limited in intervention but there can be exceptions if an intervention-heavy plot is desired.

Xeyr has a curse such that people who tend to hate a particular group and could plausibly think she’s a member of said group will think so upon seeing her. She gets tortured a lot and is very good at dealing with it.

M is oath-sworn to Xeyr (not magic, fully voluntary). Can physically outfight most things where that’s the relevant consideration. She can discorporate a limited number of times in a world/time (after that she won’t be able to come back). Has a shapeshifting weapon.

Jewel has some mind and tech powers that may be restricted to various levels. She may cause trouble. If she’s allowed to use it she may be able to produce tech and science knowledge from various worlds.

Everyone has language powers.

Xeyr, M, and Jewel (as templates)

Xeyr: Bad backstory, some bad possibility looming over. Composed, self-sacrificing. Doesn’t like attention or status.

M: Physical fighting. Encounters Xeyr when she’s doing something involving helping people and putting herself in danger, gets attached. More or less borrows morality off Xeyr.

Jewel: Cheerful, bright but very scattered. In some manner adopted by Xeyr (the general meaning of that world not the familial).

One or the other out of M and Jewel has a less pleasant side that needs constraining.

Aye and Genea
(as visitors or locals)

Homeworld is River sparks.

Aye is a mage from the mageocracy who snuck into a town in the enslaved mages part for fun. Genea is an ex-agricultural laborer guard of the city who meets her because of this. Meeting or transportation point would be after they leave the town together.

Aye and Genea (as templates)

Aye is a somewhat unhinged masochist. She will be happiest if she can get herself into a situation where she can achieve useful things by being tortured.

Genea’s generally pragmatic. Will start getting uncomfortable with bad things in her world, if that’s a thing, but won’t start out that way and will likely not know what to do about it. Can be a stabilizing factor.

L
(as visitor)

Homeworld is Reyna’s world (elsewhere in it).

Villain. Likes being effective especially in interesting situations, doing research involving using her magic, power, and torturing and traumatizing people. She does not aesthetically mind people suffering because someone wants them to (though she’ll totally fight someone causing such if she has reason); she does aesthetically mind people suffering due to incompetence etc.

Can be transported out of being in prison. In that case she will want to get what she can out of what she wants, but will refrain from the torturing. She can thus be very helpful.

L (as template)

(haven’t tried yet but want to)

She says she can have a non-evil version, which I would also like to try out.

General version
Wants to be magic if the setting has an independent magic available. Does not have an engaged family (original was in a group home but distant family might work). Brilliant. Likes research, being in charge of things, having power, and torturing people. Can be imprisoned and used to do science by a government she sufficiently admires (otherwise probably won’t cooperate).

Non-evil potential
If she is raised in a place that has care and attention to its people, a general morality she’d be brought up on of the right sort, and that will work for her as a lacking-cuddly-type-feelings person, she can probably become a potentially ruthless but morally trustworthy local/person. Will want to be involved in science and government.

League (somewhat optionally with Beia) (visitor)

Anti-hero vigilante type. Wants to track down people doing bad things and torture and/or kill them. Would happily join various revolutionary movements. Physical combat skills.

Beia is her mage

Elvira (visitor or local)

Homeworld is Enslaved mages.

Enslaved mage secret agent, very good at it. Good coping skills. Watchful. Good for kidnapping by visitors who want to talk to a mage.

Enslaved mages has some other locals in various branches who could feature; Imperial has some locals for people to run into and engage with.

Hm, that doesn't tend to be very - the way my mind runs/natural categories for me.

But (using like, the generic versions, I don't know any of the fancy ones):

Elvira and L are probably Slytherin.

Aye and Genea are - ?? Genea might be Gryffindor?

Xeyr is - maybe Hufflepuff? M is probably Slytherin. Jewel is ??.

Del is - Gryffindor? Maybe? /Hufflepuff? /Ravenclaw? Janyce is - Hufflepuff/Gryffindor?

...Huh now thinking if I can do Amentan castes. (Also not super natural categories for me but).

Elvira is red. I was at first thinking she goes and manages to be a secret red, then thought about what caste she'd pretend to be, and no, that's not it. She may do something along the lines of deciding that sometimes it's better to get out ahead of things and arrange accidents for people who seem *likely* to do something riot-causing. She's very careful and very thorough. (She's aware that if she does this to a blue someone is likely getting blamed, and has accepted this.)

L is naturally blue/green and annoyed about the split. She's blue and uses this to also have a secret identity who's green. She also still does physical combat training, possibly with another false identity.

Aye doesn't fit. (World circumstances aren't right for her to be a blue who sneaks in among reds somehow, though if they were she might do it). Genea is either a purple who wants to be grey or grey and happy about this.

As on tumblr, Xeyr is purple-secret-red, M is grey, Jewel is green.

Del is a responsible and productive member of whatever caste she is born into but she is both highest impact and happiest I think as blue. Janyce is grey.
