IIRC (it's been a while) it's a magical aura passed on when you produce and combine gametes. Wishing the kid into existence would not bring the aura along.

...so does that mean if you, uh, wished that the next time a mint jerked off the gametes would be teleported to your uterus...

But Helen was an ingot. There was no combination of gametes there. Just Suddenly Pregnant

Helen got her ingotry from the parent who carried her, though, not from the accidental gene donor.

Yes. There was body continuity in Helen's case. There is not body continuity if you wish up a baby with no direct contact with either parent.

...yes, Maggie, technically if you use wishcoins to steal a mint's sperm and/or eggs you will receive the relevant benefits. But also recall that the mint in question has to be kind of ridiculously productive in order to have a high chance of producing an ingot.

So if you're unethical enough you use r-reproduction strategy to get ingot babies?

There are probably other ways to cheat the magic system. Ingots don’t automagically beat enchantment and you can wish yourslef an enchanter; they don’t automagically beat mutants and you can wish different DNA, etc.

Of course, you need interdimensional transit for those, and wishcoins don't do that. Not until you get to really fucking high levels, anyway.

Not even a ten can do interdimensional transit, but do wishcoins need an example to make somebody an enchanter? If you did all the theoretical genetics yourself to discover mutations I’m fairly sure you could apply them without ever leaving your dimension.

A ten can do interdimensional transit; Juliet used one to send Glory Downside.
