So I pretty much just noticed that the floating box for character swapping (and now for aliases) is… rather jarring for me, when I use it.

Am I the only one who finds it weird and jarring and like the interface is trying to tell me I'm not allowed to get an intuitive feel for how to change character without unexpected scrolling and/or confusion? I really don't know how I've never noticed this before but I really don't like that part of the interface.

Alternative suggestions I have for if people agree with me here are:
- the "change character" button makes the character name have a dropdown beneath it
- the button converts the character name to a dropdown, until you select a character. (This could be confusing with aliases now being "changing the character name", so perhaps put these two together somehow?)
- there is always a dropdown, like with icon keywords

I was going to say I think #2 is the best of the lot, but I don't know how I'd tie it in with aliases except to either: (a) have the one apparent dropdown that sometimes has characters in and sometimes has aliases in, possibly confusing; (b) have two dropdowns, one for character and one for alias, and hope it fits into the UI somehow. Also the fact that some characters have long names (including metadata) means the dropdown may look ugly in the side panel.

Any input?

I just keep getting confused by the fact that in order to switch characters, you click on the change symbol next to your username, not next to the character name. Of course, now that aliases are a thing, there's not an obvious solution to that; but I keep ending up with the alias dropdown when I wanted the character one.

What do you mean by "like the interface is trying to tell me I'm not allowed to get an intuitive feel for how to change character without unexpected scrolling and/or confusion"...?

I feel like having the character-change box show up on or near the character name like some kind of bizarre parasite would be really confusing. I like the button + floating box approach because it means the infobox next to the reply form is more similar to the infobox as it will appear when the reply is posted. (Although I do think the dropdown is kind of cramped. A lot of the time when I have a lot of characters in a thread I find myself scrolling through this tiny box for the character I want despite having tons of room on the rest of my screen for all of them.)

But like, UI Is Hard, so...

idk man
