I am imagining that the girlfriend in the beginning was Cam’s regular summoner.

The one who suggested that it did something but nobody believed them, was the lack of “only if” intentional on their part? What they said was true but misleading, and I’m surprised somebofy would have only that specific information.

I’m trying to imagine the sequel where he becomes an angel. I hope you decide to write that at some point.

The one who implied that you only daevafy if you sell your soul was being deliberately deceitful and knows what's actually up, yes. Cam's regular summoner was the inspiration for the girlfriend in the beginning but I think Alicorn has declared Cam didn't get specific summonses until his parents had died and this is set in 2030 or so.

This has given me a much more visceral understanding of Daevinity's relationship with demons and it is rather upsetting.

A lot of internal screaming happened! 10/10 do recommend.

The list of things at the end made me very entertained. It was a good read. (Ice cream is good. The last one made me burst out laughing)
Aestrix is clearly the best person of all time, I worship the ground she walks on.

Pedro I am curious what in particular it was illustrative of.

For me, it was illustrative of how you would act in Daevinity if you took the public knowledge premises seriously. Well, and had curiosity in excess of your impulse control, and didn't realise that mere humans can be very good at persuasion.

I thought the idea was more that they didn't actually have to be even any more than mediocre at persuasion?

They don’t, but the viewpoint character imagined that they could, if they wanted, get a soul pretty much every time, and further thought this meant they must have superhuman persuasive powers. I think that even if you use the “almost every time” yardstick instead of the “sometimes” yardstick, there are humans who could do that if they wanted.
