Milliways & Miscellaneous Metaphysics

Post by Unbitwise »

I don't think we have a thread for this purpose yet: discussion of the properties of Milliways, other common not-run-by-just-one-author elements, general principles of interactions between worlds, et cetera.

It occurred to me that given the premises that (1) Milliways Security will always handle any trouble that comes up during their shift, and (2) the job is open to arbitrary people, this implies that observing that someone is on a Security shift is an unusually absolute guarantee that they aren't inclined to cause any trouble. During their shift.

Well, if you cause trouble during your shift, you will find that another Security officer (who, of course, can handle you) walks in and arrests you.

I just want to know what incident is guaranteed to be solvable by a basket of round fluffy purring creatures.

I mean, other than all of them.

I would expect it depends on why violence is happening, but I would have thought them more appropriate for the infirmiry. There, they would be useful right around now in RoR.

i think they were for serik, kappa's serg. on the theory of 'defuse the tension before the incident actually happens'.

If you have someone who is a potential threat, but who is predictably much likelier to lash out violently if told that there's definitely someone around who could take them, you put the basket of poofs on-duty and it becomes impossible to injure anyone in the main bar area.

Yes, the basket of poofs was originally thought of for purposes of Serik.

They're also handy for Sith Dusk - not that she has quite the same sort of reaction, I think, but anything that raises her stress level makes it harder for her to keep her impulses in check, and knowing that there's someone more powerful than her around raises her stress level. Poofs don't hit that; they're not more powerful (they can't attack her), they're just weird.

If I were the RoR folks right now, I'd be awfully curious about who could be working Security who could take a goldmage.

(At least it's not too hard to think of rock-paper-scissors powersets, so "acquire new powerful person, check security, recruit, check again, repeat" isn't a path to arbitrarily increasing power.)
