The Glowfic Constellation
Re: The Glowfic Constellation
I ask because when I tried it threw up an actual database error, so I didn't attempt to replicate. (I assumed there'd be some wrapping issues, yeah.)

Brown sugar was not noticeable, (second) cake was very popular, great success.
Hi! <3333 Database definitely limits at 255 characters; I can have it display a Proper Error for now until it appears we need that extended, in which case I could do a database update instead. But it's edge casey enough that I'm not sure it's worth burning database space on yet?
I have not touched that TXT entry which seems okay for now since I do not send any email from @glowfic.com but if and when it needs to be changed, Namecheap seems to have a pretty straightforward "here is a text box, change it to whatever you want" option; I do not imagine it will be an issue.
If PointDNS turns out to count www.glowfic.com and glowfic.com as one domain with two records, I will certainly give it a shot instead, but not tonight. Had to deal with my mom and I am not going to be wrapping my head around anything more complicated than games.

Yeah, it’s easy enough to change the TXT entry, but I’m not sure it’s even being noticed. The CNAME is basically a promise that all other records are at glowfic.com.herokuapp.com, and the TXT entry is not there.
Unfortunately, a “record” is more than a subdomain. Here are all the records you’ll need which I can think of off the top of my head:

- ALIAS for glowfic.com to glowfic.com.herokuapp.com
- CNAME for http://www.glowfic.com to http://www.glowfic.com.herokuapp.com
- MX record if you ever want to receive email
- Another MX record because it’s apparently important to have backups for those
- NS record to say to use Heroku’s nameservers.
- Another NS record because those also need backups
- A TXT record to hold the SPF information if you want to send email which doesn’t go to spam
- At least one free record because a lot of places want you to put a record somewhere to verify you own the domain
- An SOA record to say that yes this is the authoritative information
Re: The Glowfic Constellation
It would probably be a bad idea to expand the name field; 255 characters seems more than enough! I am not even actually tempted to put down Lao's full name, it is entirely too long and would be distracting. I ask merely out of curiosity. Agonized Servitor of Deception and Fear Lionborn Ashenheart, Born Beneath the Stars of the Tainted Blood of the Tormented Messiah Falling Upon Virgin Snow, in Corruption's Unholy Name Reborn From Ignoble Death by the Grace of Wuxiao the Mistress of Shadow, Dark Servant of the Most Hateful and Glorious Neverborn, That He May Bring Misery to the Hearts of the Pathetic Multitudes of Humanity will just have to deal.

Re: The Glowfic Constellation
Don't know if this has been asked before, vague memories that yes, but one post belonging to more than one continuity would be good
Re: The Glowfic Constellation
As I understand it, currently a thread shows up in Unread if it has new replies or the last reply was updated. Is there a way to mark an edit as Significant such that it will show up in unread even if it’s not the most recent reply?
Is it possible to get a list of all edits to a thread?
Both questions are inspired by this

Heeee Exalted xDDDDD
Sigh... but it's so nice having a single column on post for continuity_id :P I'll put it on the To Do list anyway, but my brain is registering sulkiness.
There is not presently a way to mark an edit as Significant, nor is there a way to get all edits in a thread. The second is technically easier than the first but probably harder to figure out a UI for, since "proper diffs" is already a thing I don't have good UI for xD put them both on To Do.
I have installed PointDNS on Heroku but not yet switched over to it. It has installed itself with a SOA record (which I will not be touching, since presumably it knows perfectly well how to identify itself), an ALIAS for root and a CNAME for www (which I have updated with the correct SSL friendly records) and four NS records (which seems plausibly excessive but I haven't touched yet since I'm only at 7). There's a reasonably nice interface for adding an SPF policy, with options like "You have 0 MX Records for this domain. Do they send mail for glowfic.com as well as receiving it? [ ] Yes, enable MX" but it doesn't seem worth worrying about the mail options just yet, since I'm still sending through Google. Does that sound sane enough for now?

Re: The Glowfic Constellation
Yes, and the four NS servers probably are excessive if you start running out of room later. I recommend keeping two though if you do remove some.
