My current algorithm is to post at most once per day per thread, and edit "might be threading" to "is threading" once there's more than a couple of sparsely-timed entries. (If it would be better to do something different, then of course please say so.)

I think we should post notifications if there's been a significant gap from the last time the thread was updated. So at least a few hours, but I don't see a need to limit it to once per day.
