I would move Water, Fire, and Wood in a bit, and change the lines so that Deity is connected to the three basic elements and the three double-elements are still connected to those three. This does not end up as the Triforce but it might not end up very aesthetic either; it seems a bit overly busy in my imagination.

Or, yes, a Vern diagram. That works.

Jenny wants Earth for the shapeshifting, Emma wants Light for the clairvoyance, Vivian wants Wood for some flavor of "I'M SAVING NATURE", and Alli cannot for the life of her make up her mind. Would probably go with Fire if pressed until she makes up her mind just cause she's got that Alianora instance who's a firewitch.

The magic you get is definitely dependent on your conceptual affinity and not on template attractors or personal preferences regarding what sort of powers you'll end up with. (But once you have your initial alignment, you get the powers within it that suit you.)

Zari is a happy happy Light. Jean sulks and insists that none of those things work for him at all.

Faith is the worst Earth in the history of ever. Em is Air and SO DELIGHTED about it. Reuben's Light, obviously. Jay is meh-probably-Air.

Clearly the arc for the Apocalypse Squad here is: Jay dies, the others decide they need to become a god to Fix This, this requires Faith to be a less terrible Earth, she attempts to achieve this, it goes Very Poorly.

This is a good system and I like the mixture of suitability and arbitrariness that power assignment has here.

I think all of my characters (well, the PC-level ones, not the background cast) are Earth. Arthurs definitely come in flavors that could go any of Earth/Wood/Light (generally, the nicer their world has been/will be to them, the more they are Light-oriented, and the more cruel the more Earth), but Suzes are Earth with a touch of Light, Sams approach everything as a matter of living their self and so are pure Earth whatever else they do (despite having an attractor toward fire and light), and Theos are Earth with a touch of Air. Turns out I like writing people who have a strong core personality and don't like being budged from it.

Could a strong template powers attractor make mostly-balanced template fall one way or the other? Like Bells might sometimes be Water; if you said Water got mental opacity I imagine that any Bells here would happen to be the kinds that were Water mages.

I don't govern how other people arrange their template attractors, but if a template attractor pushed a character's alignment in this system, it would have to do it by pushing their personality into the appropriate shape.

I've been thinking about geography and society but I don't have anything solid yet. Also, for reasons I might have to give Light lie detection, but for the most part all mental stuff (telepathy etc) seems to want to come under Wood.
