Alicorn wrote:I'm not sure I understand the question. If you mean something like "could a Bell have some form of magic that requires being an only child" or something then sure why not if that particular Bell were an only child? I don't get what you're asking.
Is more in the sense, that a Bell-relative with powers that would somehow affect the Bell-powers would get something that fills the template attractor.

I don't have specific world for this, but imagine a world where powers are more directly hereditary and don't change much from generation to generation, would that cause Renée, Sophs and Elspeths to have a mental defense even if the power doesn't suit them?
Sorry for my bad english

Actually, in canon Twilight, it's Charlie who has a weaker form of Bell opacity. So I'd probably go with it being from that side of the family. The Bell attractor for opacity-when-available is stronger than it not "suiting" their sibling or child templates - an Elspeth doesn't need to have magic at all, just needs to be honest-to-a-fault.

Does Renee have a weaker form too? I vaguely remember something about it contributing to Bella's version. The fact that both of her parents had it, and it combined into Bella's stronger form.

My source is Midnight Sun, which doesn't progress in the leaked draft far enough to show Edward meeting Renée. I don't think he mentions it in the main books. I don't remember writing it into Luminosity either, although that could be my memory failing me.

I think I kinda vaguely remember Edward apologizing for thinking Charlie didn't think much, once he found out what power Bella had.
I'm not sure, though. I'll go double check.

Was probably my mind remembering things that didn't happen. Naughty brain.

Update: Just found it, it's in Chapter 7: Souls. The exact quote is
"Bella, I'm sorry to say that I always thought of your father as a man who simply didn't think very much," said Edward. "I typically don't get words from him - just some images, some feelings, all a bit vague. I couldn't tell what he thought of the family at all even when I was standing right next to him. But with your complete inaudibility - it must be genetic, that's all. I imagine he thinks as much as anyone and I simply can't make it out clearly. I wonder what your mother sounds like! What combination would have created you and your silent mind?"

I knew I wrote the Charlie part in. I don't think I wrote a corresponding Renée part in. That's just Edward speculating.

Oh okay. I don't remember a Renée part either.

How would a Bell who grew up in a language-free environment export her thoughts? Would she invent a language on her own, or would she have some sort of alternative method, or would she keep everything in her head?

(I'm talking about an actual language-free environment, more along the lines of "raised by wolves" than "society with nonstandard communication format".)
