And I was wondering if people on this forum would be interested in playing Zendo over text, either here or on IRC (maybe #zendo). The koans are replaced by text strings, and the rules over Koans and the Rule change a bit:
- When choosing a rule, the Master announces what an "acceptable" string is. For example, an acceptable string could be trios of numbers, or sets of numbers, or sequences of letters of any length, or whatever the Master wants;
- The straightforward extension on the official restrictions is used: no outside references, no references to other koans, no reference to time, no reference to the medium, no reference to people, etc. Valid rules must be about the string and only the string;
- To guarantee fairness, at the start of the game the Master picks a cipher key and posts the ciphered rule somewhere, and at the end of the game gives the players the key to the rule.
In an IRC game that information could be pastebin'd and in the room's topic or something, though one on IRC might be fast enough that that wouldn't be necessary.
Anyone interested?
