We haven't decided for sure who is it, but an option is a May-type Bell.

Now that's just cruel to poor Maitimo. I love it.

Part of me feels like it should be a Maggie character (was going to say white but that would have been misread), but a non-Forks Bell does work better. Where in Canada does Weird Stuff turn up?

Canada doesn't have a specific Weird Stuff Place attractor.

Stuff that must have happened, offscreen in the art of the trade:

"Sauron? Wants to rule the world, flaming eye on top of a tower,* obsessed with a particular magic ring?"
"No. None of those things. He's Moringotto's top lieutenant, that we know of."
"Oh. Must be a different guy. You sure he's not a giant flaming eye,* not even a little bit?"

In-thread, Amber had only heard Thauron's name from the Feanorians. They don't call him Sauron. But by the time we got around to having Fingon say it it had been months and probably wasn't the first time the Nolofinweans mentioned him. You can assume she was suitably surprised but wrote it off as a name collision.

*See, Jackson, this is what happens when you depict the President of the United States as a literal bald eagle. People might believe you.

Even I have heard the phrase “eye of Sauron” which implies that he is not literally the eye, and before these threads I knew practically nothing about Arda except that it was created with music, rings were important at one point, and a good guy hobbit destroyed one of those. And the language were really well developed, but that isn't in-world.

In this case, not knowing anything about Arda makes you better informed than people relying primarily on having seen the films.

In the movie not only is Third Age Sauron shown exclusively as the Eye, but Saruman directly says that he cannot yet take physical form. The book is unambiguous that this is wrong, but it's not shouted from any rooftops and it's more than possible to miss it if you go in with the movies' depictions in mind.

I am amused at Two Hells Findekáno's notion that other worlds' ethics are different from his because of demonic influences.

"maybe there's a world where we're evil and a world where we're stupid" -- Two Hells Maitimo

Well we all know what I want to see now, don't we! (Come on, you can't tell me that wouldn't be hilarious.)

Also, I'm going to be terribly amused if the Two Hells peal-or-whatever manages to come out with the impression that all Flat Ardas are evil, and this leads to major misunderstandings when they meet a more standard one.
