Two questions:

1. Is sexual orientation always the same across resurrections (meaning the same target, because obviously gay/straight can change)? Obviously it can be different between regular alts but we have not seen it change between resurrections.

2. Could Lu and Kidan just have had the storks updated to, after delivering one of them, fly to Lapiz and convey the information about their latest delivery to Charp? Then Charp could send a letter 17 years later, which seems better all around.

1. Adarins have a template-invariant sexual orientation (demisexual pan). I have not decided whether it's conceptually impossible for a Cycle instance of a Bell to turn up not-monosexual-androphilic.

2. Storks can receive complex information but can't transmit anything that complicated.

What if storks are labeled somehow (bird bands?) so it only has to show up and Charp can read off where it's deployed?

My other ideas involved the stork delivering a letter with the baby, or 17 years later, or something, but this draws more attention and has various other failure modes. I imagine storks aren’t assigned to individual cities.

Storks are indeed not assigned to individual cities. In particular as new storks are released the storks spread out more in response.

Could just ask storks to bring babies they recognize to a prearranged place. Bringing babies to places is an information channel they have.

If they land on the other continent the journey to Lapis would take long enough to harm the baby.

Continents are big enough I thought that was probably true even if they landed on the right continent.

Can/do storks carry some sort of nonperishable milk substitute if such a thing has been found?

That's a good idea. Cycle babies can drink, like, juice.

Can you make shines if you know where the relevant light is but can’t see it (such as if you are blind or the light is IR or UV)? What if you can only see it with some sort of assistive device, like an IR camera or goggles which move the light into a frequency you can see? What about with the magic Elf goggles which let you process IR as a new color, or a spell directly on somebody doing that, or borrowing Elf eyes telepathically?
