Maybe each board/subboard could have an "is this a continuity" bit, and the text describing/referring to it could change accordingly?
eta: On second thought...
It seems to me there are several major types of categories:
big continuities (collections of chapters)
chapters within big continuities
small continuities (series of threads)
non-continuity collections
the "miscellaneous/sandboxes" bucket
discussion/backstage
possibly others
Maybe the best thing is to just have each board/subboard/category/thingy have a configurable text field saying what it is. Or call it something super generic, like "board" or "category".

Yeah. The thing is, these various types of thing don't just have different "what do I put in the text field describing my nature" needs - individual major continuities have their own individual organization and that works fine, but e.g. the sandboxes bucket could probably use some internal organization that isn't just "all of the sandboxes arranged in an arbitrary order", and I'm not sure what exactly that should look like, and I'm not sure whether it makes more sense for single-section continuities to go in the sandboxes/oneshots bucket or the continuities bucket or some other different bucket... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's not really a technical problem, though. A system of generic categories -- or for that matter tags, which are basically categories that can overlap -- would be forward-compatible with whatever we end up doing.
When a post is deleted, it deletes everything downthread. This should be an option, not a hidden gotcha.
Also for unclear reasons I cannot get the icons pictures to appear anymore even when I refresh, click to the page from somewhere else, etc. I don't need them for all characters but for ones I use less looking at them is useful. ETA: This resolved when I switched characters and back.
