'Bala' is the root in 'Beleriand', which means 'land of the gods' despite the conspicuous absence of gods. Eh, we'll say the Noldor have already changed but still remember the old sound and don't have trouble producing it.

Except now it's going to mean "land of inventions". Or maybe "land of the Divine Inventor[s]", that would be an interesting theological muddle. Make Aüle more popular, maybe.

Also, wouldn't that sound change make "Beleriand" into something very like "Valerian"? Now I'm imagining a crossover 'verse about Mandos' Dart...

I don't recognize the story of Raafi's friend with the dangerous pet, but I am for some reason reminded of Ash Ketchum and his Pikachu.

What translation effects are patchable? For example, Loki patched Allspeak when it had a bug with genders. I’m curious because (if I had not heard of the Pokémon franchise) I would want to patch any whatever-they-speak-in-Arceus to English translation so that pokémon turning into other types was “metamorphosis” or its own word. I think there are other translation oddities I would want patched too, but this is the one that prompted it.

Milliways is beyond the ken of patrons. Allspeak takes patches. What other translation mechanisms do you want rulings on?

I guess most of the other ones I can think of are closer to knowing a bunch of languages, such as Draconic and devices. Can a fairy who knows enough about human languages in general keep plain speaking but with some sort of patch like this, or would they need to concentrate on making specific sounds? What about somebody using the Speech to be universally understood?

Miscellaneous translation magic ala pentagons and Elcenian wizardry?

Some other translation effects of recurring interest:
  • Mother Starlight's translation effect
    • known to be patchable
  • Portalling kobold's translation artifact
    • patchability unknown to me
  • "learning" translators like T'mir's or Callida's
    • might or might not even encounter this issue, and in any case are patchable
  • direct comprehension effects
    • should not encounter this issue at all
    • with special mention for Meletiti Entelecheiai's comprehension effect, which I think might still explain it by way of "evolution" rather than "metamorphosis" depending on the listener's current understanding of each, but in any case should not introduce new misapprehensions
(Edited for clearer list format)
