I don't fully understand what's going on there. Sometimes the Elves seem to react as though they can hear her thoughts, but I thought that as a Subtle Artist she had a pretty good grade of mental shield.

And reading that thread, seeing the difference between how Valinor seems to Bella and how it seems to everybody else, really drives home how bad Materia is. Both were controlled by gods or other powerful beings who don’t always act in the mortals’ best interests, but Valinor is far superior to Materia in that regard even though everybody else thinks the rulers are unfit for their jobs. And yes, this is accounting for the differing time periods where the flaws in Valinor have not yet come to light.

I would want to go to Materia and give Bella and Milan hugs and console them about their awful worlds, but I would not survive stepping foot there. I’m half surprised I survived contemplating stepping foot in that world.

In summary: eek.

Materia needs to die in a fire after being evacuated. Valinor needs a clue-by-four to the head.

I was assuming that her shields were holding and lintamande was assuming (in ways I didn't pick up on clearly) that they weren't and we resolved that a ways into the thread. But Bella's not exactly making really deadpan facial expressions or keeping all emotion out of her mental voice so I think that might cover it.

I also assumed they didn’t hold; they aren’t even rated for divine or arcane Material magic.

They wouldn't hold up against a concerted battering, but she already has something installed in her head distinguishing thoughts-for-sharing and thoughts-not-for-sharing and that's all you need to handle osanwë.
