Was this intentionally supposed to be an abortion parallel? Different situation regarding the timeframes of dependency vs. sentience, admittedly, but it seems very similar nonetheless.

(I notice that this is my second consecutive post mentioning abortion, which seems to merit a disclaimer. Disclaimer: I am extremely pro-choice, but have no wish to push my beliefs on anyone, or even argue about them in this forum. As far as I can tell, it is a coincidence that I was moved to post two consecutive comments--they were both sparked by reading Incandesence, but different parts of it. Random thought while reading 'clannish' where Renata takes Zeviana to the zoo: I feel like most worlds with humonoid type people should also have monkeys and such animals. But obviously not all of them, since Zeviana seems to not recognise them.
