Re: Moiety Colors: Wow
I don't think the flags are, we're running out of distinguishable colours, but combinatorial explosion makes the two-colour flags much more numerous and still easy to distinguish at a glance.
Re: Moiety Colors: Wow
Yeah – two-color sets are helpful, provided there aren't too many scenarios where someone has the same colorset but inverted since those might get confused. I think three colours would probably start being confusing unless people went for gradients, though, but that's not a good solution since gradients would just reduce colorspace.

I tried to minimize confusion in the flag design by having the primary colour take two bars and the secondary take one, so it's more visually obvious which is which even without the order.

Well, two-color sets are very vast even we block "inversions" (e.g. can't have someone that is red-blue and another that is blue-red), I don't think the number of glowficcers will grow five times any time soon... right?Throne3d wrote:Yeah – two-color sets are helpful, provided there aren't too many scenarios where someone has the same colorset but inverted since those might get confused. Sorry for my bad english

This, all the this. Except maybe the part about a new scheme. Not gonna lie, this is so far literally the opposite of how I was hoping this would go xD Like.. in practice, I'm not going to remember anyone's secondary color even harder than I already don't remember their primaries, and using colors as a visual indicator will continue to be useless for me.Lambda wrote:I think that this is a mess and we should devise a new scheme from scratch.

It can be useless to you while being useful for other people, I think.

Re: Moiety Colors: Wow
@Marri: Maybe I'm confused about what the point of moiety colors is? I'd assume whenever you're reading a glowfic you know who the (usually 2) authors are. So I thought the points of moiety were (1) to distinguish the posts within the glowfic among the (usually 2) possible authors (since on DW, unlike GC, this isn't listed on every post) and (2) have an in-universe way to refer to characters having the same author. For (1) color seems like the obvious way to do it; simultaneously using these colors to satisfy (2) means that authors should get to pick this color, and the laziest way to do that is to pick colors as few times as possible (i.e. not on a per-glowfic basis), which suggests the system we have now.

Well, without the colour reference chart Ade adds to all posts it would be completely useless to me, too, but I mostly recognise characters not colours, so.
(And my main appreciation for these colours is seeing how much Salmon Ade's list has, I feel v proud of that fact.)
