How would Kappa’s idea look in a Marri/Pedro thread, or other close combinations? What about for Maggie or Rockeye?

If the code is hsv-based, Maggie can get white and two light greys and Rockeye can get black and two dark ones. Conflicting author colors are a harder problem, though.

What Adelene said. I'll probably test on my morning assembly thread with Throne3d, actually, red and carmine are... Close xD

I like that last thing! But make it switchable. Every user could pick their own, but that by default.
The WAFFLES will submit to this indignity.

Your moiety of black could cause some bugs or just make things look weird, because they couldn’t make a darker color. Same reason I mentioned Maggie.

Note that I put Ade's moiety colour on a white background and Pedro's on a black background. Black on a white background and white on a black background are both perfectly feasible.

I was more worried about the related colors which were generated. You use lighter and darker colors as well as the base moiety color.

The final implementation might work differently, but for the screenshots I took, I wasn't "generating" anything. I made the background white for Ade's infobox and then put their moiety colour on top in opacities of 0.5 (icon box), 0.7 (character name), and 1 (author name); then with Pedro I made the background black and the transparencies on top were 0.25 (border), 0.5 (icon box), 0.6 (character name), 0.8 (character username), and 1 (author name).
