I think that the current site color scheme has too many different colors and ends up kind of — muddy. On the other hand, I like the idea of using moiety colors to theme things. I thus suggest reducing the ambiguity by simplifying the site color scheme.

- If moiety colors display when reading posts like Kappa's been making examples of, it will almost certainly be opt-in (it will default to off but you can turn it on). That said, <333 Kappa for making pretty things I can use
- I'm leaning towards not displaying it in lists of posts; it gets awkwardly rainbowy really fast.

And yes, additional layouts with different color schemes is on the todo list :)

Using fewer colors. In particular, using fewer background colors. Possibly less saturated and lighter ones.

For context, I always read DW threads in "site" style.

I agree with Unbitwise about all things.

At least, all things above this post on this current page (with the current default pagination and assuming no future edits).

In other words, simpler is better, fewer colors is better, Dreamwidth site style is better than the default non-site style, and moiety colors displayed in posts are still good because they have meaning.

to be done automatically? Like, given a moiety colour, can the other pretty colours that are similar to it like that be calculated automatically and such? Or would this have to be manual?

I actually did that in a really automatable way. The only tricky part is figuring out whether the moiety colour is dark or light. If dark, make the background of the infocard white, then make the backgrounds of the subsections various transparencies of the moiety colour on top of it. If the moiety colour is light, make the background black and do the same thing. Ta-daa. It's simple enough that it can probably be done totally automatically.

- I messed with timestamps a bit. Posts should be more accurate now. Posts updated in the past twenty four hours with no changes since my release may be off by a couple seconds; I didn't bother going back to fix it but if people see weirdness I can certainly go edit manually.
- You can select your default view for the character and gallery pages. It still defaults to icon. For anonymous users without accounts, it will still persist your last choice to session; for logged in users, it uses the new account setting.
- You can also now list moiety name on your account page so you can see it on a user's profile.

Also I made a note on my "add additional layouts" page that people have expressed a preference for minimalist / Dreamwidth site style. Current goals are the existing default (green/purple themed in honor of Effulgence), light minimalist as mentioned here, dark as created by Throne, maybe various accessible ones* if I can figure it out.

*Unfortunately most of my knowledge of such things is "there are ways to do layouts accessible for things like Tritanopia because I have seen it done and I would like to do the thing" and not in any way "here is how to do the thing". Obviously I can just research it when I get to it, but if this is a thing that affects anyone here and they'd like to make requests or offer suggestions or anything like that, I will happily prioritize.

The browser on my phone is allergic to imgur images, but in general the answer to this question is 'yes'; the first step is to convert the RGB values to HSV, and then you can determine useful things about your starting color like 'is it very dark, very light, or in the middle' and generate other colors of the same hue based on that.
