Re: A Thread For My Characters
Fleeing is the short-term goal. Ultimately they'd like to find extra dimensional resources that they could bring home and destroy the sentinels with, but to do anything useful they have to not be dead, which is rapidly slipping off the menu as the sentinels become more and more difficult to evade.
Re: A Thread For My Characters
What are the differences between this pair and the Edie who tried to read Gem’s mind (and then got magical girl powers)? They seem to be from mostly the same world, but with some differences and I’m not sure I’m noticing all of those.
Re: A Thread For My Characters
We end up with rather more plot, then. Which is also cool. ^^MaggieoftheOwls wrote:Fleeing is the short-term goal. ETA: Thinking about it, this seems like it turns into a multi-person continuity? Which I've been wanting to see happen. The first thing with Portalbold will set them up to use Milliways as a base of operations, and then from there they can meet other people's characters, kind of thing. If you want to do that.

I'm not sure I want to try doing a more-than-two-people continuity.
The meaningful difference between Fleedie and Emily and Rogue Edie and Emily is that Rogue Edie and her Emily managed to grab a handful of kids when they were fleeing...
Okay, bit of history.
Sentinels started their reign of terror in spring of 1976, when the twins were twelve. The X-Men continued to be a thing for the next approximately two years, until the Sentinels found the place where the group was hiding very abruptly. Their opening move was to kill the Professor, and Magneto wasn't far behind. Everyone who survived (which was not, in fact, only the twins) did so by scattering. None of the surviving groups from the sentinel attack know for sure that the others exist. The largest group to have escaped intact is seven, and that one only in Rogue Edie and Emily's world, where they managed to save five small children too little to attract the Sentinels' attention in their own right. Having to take care of five kids means that A) staying alive has been much harder, hence the paranoia and mind-reading, and B) Rogue Edie couldn't flee the universe because Emily and the littles weren't close enough for her to get them into Milliways too.

I'm not sure I was clear on how I was thinking that'd work; it'd be two-person threads, just different pairs of people at different times. But sure, we could do it with just Bar and NPCs for extradimensional resource sources.MaggieoftheOwls wrote:I'm not sure I want to try doing a more-than-two-people continuity.

Maybe we should take this to PMs.

Now wondering if heart investiture interacts with Alethia-style daemons. Is a heart close enough to the same as a soul?

It's not quite the same thing. Depending on the 'box or longer story the universe may or may not bestow "heart" on anyone who enters the universe but based on how I think of it I see no reason for it to interact with daemons. It holds a similar level of "flagship trait of personhood" in this world's culture, though.

Heart-mage Edie and Emily are a biological chimera. Causally, having a heart invested in something, whether that be an object or a person, changes it a bit. Metacausally, all fusions of Edie and Emily have white hair.
