Writing anything is sometimes satisfying and always tiring, especially emotionally. (Woo, anxiety.) Recently I have been consistently low-energy because I've been constantly having "Get a Job" hanging over my head, so I haven't had to energy to push through the anxiety even when I have decent premise ideas.Bluelantern wrote:Inactive by choice?PlainDealingVillain wrote:Yeah, Theo felt inapproriate for the setting he was in. But I am basically inactive as a glowficcer, so there's no big deal.
(Premise ideas I've had: a Sam draws randomly from the Shadow Tarot hand and it goes unexpectedly well. An Arthur inherits a shadow lord like Neverwinter!Veron and goes looking for him to get help cleaning up the shadow realm.)
Re: New Characters Say Hello
so, uh, hi! i'm diaeresis, been sort of lurking around the fringes of this community for a while. i like gaming and altrock music. i don't have a lot of experience with rp'ing, but of late i've had the urge to try it out, so this is me getting the ball rolling on that front. i have so far two people i've been working on who i think might be ready to talk. they are:
ellie, who has had Bad Experiences with authority that make her resentful of anyone in a position of power over her and inclined to spite the System, unless she gets to be in charge of the System in which case y'all better sit down and do what she tells you. if magic is available, she's attracted to lost knowledge and tends to get into a researcher/archaeologist position to better accumulate same. moral qualms are not a thing she experiences, and she prefers regimes where she doesn't have to worry about ethics getting in her way. she's not necessarily evil per se, she just doesn't agree with the proposition that other people's wants should matter in comparison to her own. ellie's two questions regarding new things are will Thing make me powerful? and will Thing be fun? if the answer to either is yes, she'll probably go for it.
anna, who is very good at what she does (mostly hitting people), and loves doing it. she's comfortable working either with or without official sanction or a support structure, but if she's in an organization, she does not want to be in charge of a lot of people as managerial-type stuff tends to cut into punching-people time and lead to situations where "hit the other person until they stop disagreeing with you" is not an acceptable strategy. given a sufficiently long life, she will develop other skillsets and begin to bring those to bear on problems she might earlier have solved via direct application of force. anna's morality is fluid, defaulting to a me-first type ideology, but if she meets someone she likes who has strong preferences on the subject she will adopt their viewpoint.
both these characters originated in the star wars setting (old republic era) and i'd be interested in doing stuff there. also open to other settings, but you'd probably have to do most of the heavy lifting with those. if you want to talk about anything or you have questions because i didn't do a good job explaining please hit me up!

Hi, welcome!
There is a very interesting plot to be had with a Carp-native instance of Ellie and Portalbold, sometime. Carp magic isn't recordable but is teachable, and Ellie could totally be a researcher collecting obscure magic forms from, say, animalperson tribes and such, and I can just imagine what her reaction would be to Lurker teleporting her into the middle of a lake in an attempt to get her to leave people alone. (Would teleportation magic make her powerful: Yes.) Also she'd be absolutely terrifying with Carp magic in general; we really haven't seen anyone who's actually willing to hex people yet. :3

i think i need to hear more about carp magic before i can tell what ellie would do with it. do you have a write-up of it somewhere?
Re: New Characters Say Hello
Hi, diaresis! :) I like your characters, and I'd be interested in doing star wars stuff (I'm not suuuuper up on the universe but I think it would be a fun one to play in.)
Ellie sounds awesome, and I think she would get on like a house afire with my Faith. (Basic personality = has extremely powerful magic that she fails at controlling, dubious ethics, wants to take over the world and remake it in her own image.)
What sort of things does Ellie find fun?

Anna is interesting, would she be interested in punching potentially-city-killing monsters called Neuroi? For appropriate compensation, of course.

Your characters sound really interesting! I don't really know much about the Old Republic but doing something else might be fun.
Re: New Characters Say Hello
if magic is off the table, ellie says that nothing beats a quiet evening in with a good book (terribly sappy romances, if anyone found out she would have to kill them).
@moriwen: extremely powerful magic would mark faith as a person of interest, whether to be allied with, avoided, or eliminated depends on how badly out of control it is and how well they get along. definitely would like to see what happens, though.
@rockeye: as long as she's appropriately power-scaled to deal with/avoid/survive the city-killing bit, anna is very interested in punching neuroi. they sound like they could use a good punchening.
@maggie: thanks! old republic is really all i know well haha but if you have something else that'd be cool
