Re: Bindings Worldbuilding Info
Can a spell that a binder knows act as a unitary component on the spellchart of a larger spell? As in, if you're making a big spell that includes a smaller spell which you already know as one of its components, do you have to re-understand all the fiddly bits of the component spell for it to count as simultaneously understanding the entirety of the bigger spell, or does knowing the component spell allow you to treat it as a thing-in-itself for the purposes of spellcharting? (I'm guessing not because if spells were that modular it might make it too easy to make big complex ones?)

Nope. Loki-Bell's magic works like that, but for binders you have to get the whole thing in complete detail in your head all in one go.

I was thinking some mix of that for multi-hexes objects. The hex parts must be understood individually to be "learned", but you have to understand all parts to make it work, even if the project is done by multiple people. It hinders "industrial production" for the more dangerous objectsAlicorn wrote:Nope. This is a cool magic system :)
I will be surprised if the concept of modularity is a new one since spell creation seems to work like programming.
Surprising computer analogue hexes are not common.
How common are hexes anyway?
We still have not actually seen one so maybe they are really rare?
Maybe immortality can work like a health regimen?
Cast an instant spell every day to make yourself one day younger?
Iobels invisibility mixes really well with wall walking. I would have expected to see holes appearing in walls when she steps through.
How does invis-while-not-blind work? Maybe it has lightless-sight component?
Does the add-material-to-invis component read intent directly or does it need a physical action to initiate? Would she need to be concious for it to work?
Would she be visible as a empty hole in a cloud of flour or would the flour particles be simulated inside her?
Could she extend the invis into walls/floor to make peepholes?
Can it be cast on others? Kinda risky to test if it is personal since it might have turned out to be permanent and no off-button.
Does Adarin-sight highlight all organic matter or just humans?
It seems simpler to show all organics but maybe it shows spiritual energy and that is why it is shine coloured?
If it shows spirit-energy I am suprised it does not distinguish binders. Design choice between privacy-block and spirit-saturation-vision?

There's no reason you can't make a hex every single day if you don't cast other things. Iobel used to do that most days. She sold things like boxes that held more than they ought to and components for magic plumbing systems and whatnot.
Computers are not obvious even once you've gotten as far as, say, calculators. It's not impossible to hex something to do some computation or data storage but it's not common.
Iobel is hoping for a form of immortality that will work for nonbinders too.
I can't think why the invisibility would combine with wall-walking in such a way as to produce visible holes in the walls. She's not *making* holes in the walls, she's just phasing through them.
The setting already has people with glowing eyes and negligibly impaired vision, so I don't think vision that continues to work while one is invisible is much of a stretch.
By default material added to her person is made invisible with her, and if she were unconscious and invisible this would occur. She can choose, while invisible and conscious, not to do this for a particular thing. The spell won't simulate flour particles, so she might be slightly detectable as a patch of no flour, although as long as there was enough flour around and she kept moving this wouldn't help you much.
She can't extend the invisibility to things that aren't *on* her person, so no peepholes, but that's a cute munchkining idea. She can cast invisibility on other people. The spell was designed not to be permanent, so there was a question of how long it would last but not if it would last.

Adarin-sight does humans only. It's simpler to show all organics, yes, but lots of things qualify as organic, so to avoid stepping outside and being blinded by grass he aimed it at people only. He's trying to find a way to add familiars to the list, but that couldn't fit in his head along with all of the other requirements for his spell, so he nixed it.
It does show spirit-energy, but this is like version three of the spell. First was all organics, which he threw out nearly immediately, second is actually the non-silhouette version that lets him see specific people, but that was thrown out too because he once saw some servants doing something in a closet and realized privacy is a thing he should respect. So, third version is with silhouettes, with their casting color (even if they are not spellbinders) instead of actually seeing them, so they can have as much privacy as possible while he is still totally spying. He's still got the second version, he can use it any time he wants, he just doesn't, and doesn't tell his brother that he has it. Because his brother would want to use it for unethical reasons.

Holes in walls:
I was thinking invis working by teleporting bits of light around you.
Guess your version is more like total transparency? Does it work if immersed in substance that bends light differently? (water etc.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPK2m0qRZx4
Glowing eyes: couple possible explanations
-Illusory light only visible to other people
-light that only goes out. not in. (would reflect from glasses/fog etc. So problematic)
-built-in perception filter/blindness for your own exact wavelength.
-eye-light is actually different wavelength than mundane light. Only perceived as same colour.
Might be worth it to have a long charge spell so you can use eyes as flashlights :)
How does A-sight differentiate humans from the rest?
Dna?
2 legs+hands?
Universal constant that means 'human'?
Is it possible to forget/drop memorized spells?

Re: Bindings Worldbuilding Info
This begins to look like physics! Oh no! Physics!
You can forget that you have a spell, but if you try to cast one that you have it will always be there.

Re: Bindings Worldbuilding Info
The magic's based off of flowcharts, so it essentially is a very long flowchart that involves things like, 'Opposable thumbs = yes/no' and such.

physics is fun :)
