Non-fig wasps are useful primarily as small-insect predators; if you don't want to be overrun with gnats, learn to love the wasp. (This information courtesy of my boyfriend, who is a biologist and gets very irritable about arthropod hate.)

I apologize for unwarranted arthropod hate. I am extremely fond of most forms of arthropods, such as bees and spiders, and should have been more thoughtful about the wasps.
