I'm not sure you wanted to be an ageless baby anyway.

Your mind isn't affected unless the card specifically does that. You would be a genius - for a child of that age.

The shadows use really eccentric definitions sometimes. The shadow conveniently chose to interpret "this conversation" as the conversation about that card specifically, and assumed that that card would be chosen. Yep.

Yvette's memories may or may not return.

The Fool will put you in a body of a different sex. It doesn't change your gender identity. Yes, it is actually a benefit for people who are trans. If you are physically intersex, the shadows will pick a gender for you. Yes, they are awful.

I didn’t want to be an ageless baby, but to be moved into my new body when the body was new.

Why did that shadow suggest the Hanged Man, and for mostly valid reasons?

It will take people from other species, but prefers ones that will fit in a 'fantasy kitchen sink' environment. Elves, dwarves, etc can be assumed to already have native populations. If you don't have enough members of your species in the new world, you get Human'd. If you're cognitively different enough from a human, the shadows probably won't grab you. Human-related species are likely to become human.
Guys, guys! I had the best idea, the bested idea! Imagine a Tishinyanusel!Elf against one of the shadows! The poor thing! :D

My idea was a non-Speaker kobold, but I decided they are probably just slightly cognitively too unlike humans.

I'd think that in both those cases, the Shadow could decide there weren't enough questions and just throw a card.

I think that many elves, if presented with a demand to choose and then an accusation of stalling (especially if that accusation came with the statement that “I See you” is not a question) would at least consider dropping into war manners.
