Re: Solving Batman Plot
He was sort of a splinter group from the League of Assassins. Roughly the same goals, and an unclear amount of coordination with the original League. Then when Talia inherits the League they're back.
IIRC.
IIRC.
Re: Solving Batman Plot
first, i apologize for my unexpected vacation in the hospital :( [which may happen again. sigh]
second... are you looking for info on the League, the movie-off-shoot created for the movie, or the Gotham Resistance [or all three?] because i'm up on the first, fairly up on the second, and can probably figure out the third just from general knowledge of the verse[s] and how one would do something similar in Real Life...
i didn't think you'd bite on trying to brainphone Bats, but it was worth throwing out there. have you decided on 'other friends of Mommy'? this may actually be something to decide AFTER you decide on how you're going to run the Gotham Resistance; depending on who you bring in, it could be *very* unbalancing. [another Logan would be useful but might [probably?] undermine authority, for instance. presuming Penn *remembers* him...] but Penn REALLY DOES know several 'friends' who *aren't* from her world, so it is worth looking at.
where would you like me to start?
[please be warned; i'll probably be slow -- my birthday was Friday, but i'd just gotten out of the hospital the day before. between general 'recovery' and people wanting to drag me to DeadPool because it was OBVIOUSLY my gift from the Universe, i'll be slow. because i've seen it once and have at least 3 more screenings scheduled. lol]

Re: Solving Batman Plot
I'd personally be interested in all these explanations even if they don't in the end turn out to actually be directly useful or solve everything, and I think even if they're not they're probably generally helpful for the necessary worldbuilding to unpause peal time.

short form League of Assassin's [LoA] background:
some hundreds of years ago [depends on writer HOW MANY] there was a Warlord, Ra's al Ghul. he discovered a form of immortality, what he called 'Lazarus Pits', that would rejuvenate any person who bathed in it to peak condition; this worked with DEAD PEOPLE as well as live, but always caused a form of temporary insanity colloquially known as 'Pit Madness' that is really just the most extreme form of road rage ever.
he decided to take over the world.
he started taking over villages; taking their sons at young ages to brainwashed for his 'cause'.
his cause was, roughly, world-domination in a *WORLD HE UNDERSTOOD AND APPROVED OF*. sometimes this meant destroying entire populations he felt were neither convertible nor useful [like Gotham, eventually]. he doesn't have a problem with crime, per se, but with *chaos* that has no purpose. the only recognizable purpose is his own.
megalomania + immortality + fanatic brainwashed armies, na da?
Talia [until REALLY RECENTLY, comic-time] is the *ONLY* child he has ever had. she is *NOT* a son, therefor all he wants her to do is marry *THE* most worthy man, aside from himself, and give him an heir.
the *ONLY* worthy man he ever found was Bruce Wayne. from there, it gets... complicated. like, Talia is almost 2 centuries herself, often resents how she isn't 'good enough', and becomes rebellious. in theory, she REALLY DOES Bruce, but... they *DO NOT* have compatible -- anything, really. morals, ethics, ideas, wants, needs... yeah.
movie-verse differences -- the 'Leader' of the LoA is, as of movie one, Ra's al Ghul, but there is NO mention that he has enjoyed any extension of life. no clue if that's *BACKSTORY*, but if it was supposed to be, it's *NOWHERE*.
Talia is still his only child, still considered to have 'only' the job of marrying properly for an Heir. but that history is like so:
Ra's fell in love and married. enemies kidnapped his wife and threw her [pregnant] into the Pit [where Bane and various others were]
wife dies after giving birth; Bane acts as protector of Talia, until she is trained enough to escape the way that Bruce/Bats later does [she is forced to escape, in part, because she is *growing up*, lets not discuss that any further]
she *SOMEHOW* finds Ra's, convinces him of who she is, they raid the Pit. Bane is discovered, almost dead from attacks sustained while protecting Talia during her escape. Ra's declares him unfit for 'Brotherhood' in the LoA due to that damage; Talia helps him overcome this.
when Ra's is killed in the first movie, Talia decides to get vengeance. Problem; she's a guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurl, and a good chunk of the tradition LoA won't follow her. second problem; even if they *WOULD*, Gotham 'proved' it's right to exist by resisting the LoA's attack, they aren't going to go *back*!
so she takes her ball [Bane] and goes and makes her own game.
it takes her a decade, but her splinter-cell finally decides it's ready [and she's been posing as Miranda Tate, as part of the plan...] and the rest is, essentially, seen in the movie. you've got [essentially] the President [Talia] the General [Bane] the General's 2nd [Barsad] and the rest are nameless soldiers/mooks.
the Gotham Resistance i will type up another time; i'm losing coherency [damned meds]
is this enough? clear? coherent? [i worry, because again, damned meds]

Re: Solving Batman Plot
Both Ra's versions have the anti-civilization, nature-was-better thing aspect to their motivation.
I think half of figuring out how the resistance happens may be figuring out how anyone is getting food and such into the city.

Re: Solving Batman Plot
well, it's not Civilization *per se*
it's...
it's modernization, is probably the easiest way to explain. Ra's, *comic* verse, truly believes that 99.999% of humanity are INCAPABLE of being anything but Sheeple; movie-verse version even got a couple of monologues about it.
and further feels when people IN GENERAL try to rise above being 'peasants', they *FAIL* because they just aren't capable, and that's apparently why crime. sigh.
Food/Supplies/ReSup in general:
first off, your AVERAGE household in the US keeps anywhere from a week to a month's worth of non-perishable food supplies.
warehouses [PLEASE NOTE I DO NOT WORK FOR ANY SUCH COMPANY AND IT'S BEEN OVER A DECADE SINCE I HAVE] have a constant in/out flow, but if it just STOPS would probably [this is fudging a bit, but JUST a bit] contain enough NON-PERISHABLES for 6 months-to-a-year. now, there's going to be VARIANCE -- some things don't actually store as well as others. there might be up to five years of canned goods, but only three months of JARRED [glass breaks, na da] but OVER ALL, i'd say with the basic ration system it APPEARS Bane's group put in place, they're *GOOD* on food.
water depends on if 'Gotham' is another name for 'New York' or specifically "Manhattan' or if it's a separate city. in the first case(s), refer to New York's water system. but i'm fairly sure that the writers have stated that Gotham doesn't REPLACE New York, just lowers it's importance, so!
to a LARGE EXTENT, Bane's LoA were, well, 'squatting' in the water treatment facilities of Gotham. i presume at least a *few* of them learned how to run it, as advance scouts. and generally, modern water treatment facilities work, period. they're manned in case a something happens, but it's rare [my friend Erin? has worked in THIS Major Metro Area's WTW for over a decade; never been called to deal with a 'something']
bet people will start to boil, anyway.
the BIG issue is gonna be *HEAT*. if Gotham is designed how i think it is, most of the city should actually be mostly *FINE* -- they run off radiators. yes, you need SOME fuel for them, but it tends to be delivered in multi-year 'packets'. store-found kerosene works. WOOD would work, if dangerously. they won't ever get *warm*, but can keep above freezing. [do i need to explain this further?]
no gas [or diesel, or jet fuel] after the first couple weeks, EXCEPT what's held in City Depos [which *SHOULD* contain enough to run EVERY city owned 'gas generator' for something like 6 months solid. 'should'; it's Gotham. if there's 3, i'd be happy] and EXCEPT what's held at hospitals, which... they *DO* tend to ACTUALLY HAVE ENOUGH FUEL FOR A YEAR AT A TIME, *IF* they're a level 1 or 2 trauma center. which... i can only assume at least SOME are. basically, FOR THE MOST PART, unless LoA is keeping power running city-wide [and not just 'their' buildings with generators] the *ONLY* places with power will be Hospitals, LoA places, and places with generators. who probably won't RUN them much.
good news, for ReSup in *other* areas, is that no matter which version of history you use [Gotham in place of, or Gotham coexisting with] GOTHAM HAS ALWAYS BEEN A SMUGGLERS PORT.
and sorry, Bane and Friends. *NO* Johnny-come-lately is going to know those routes even HALF so well as your random dock-worker. let alone *actual criminals*
the big problem you might run into is some criminals just RUNNING AWAY
also, it's highly probable that people wanting ammo is going to mean that the drug runners [and those who run *worse*] are going to temporarily switch over to the more ludicrous opportunity[ies]. so drug runners will probably switch almost entirely to ammo, and MIGHT also play coyote for those who can afford it. which means the HOSPITALS are gonna have problems...
i'm [really damned slowly, sorry] doing more research for the Gotham Resistance -- there's almost NOTHING posted in accordance with the movie, and the analogous comic book run [No Man's Land] had not just BATMAN there, but the ENTIRE FREAKING BAT FAMILY. and was different in lots of other ways.
it's a damned good thing i read a LOT of sci-fi :D
and i'm doing real research, too -- if anyone can think of anything related to, say, the Battle of Malta that isn't *COMMON* but that i could FIND, that would rock :)

Re: Solving Batman Plot
Your capitalization preferences are irritating. Could you please try to minimize allcaps?
Re: Solving Batman Plot
I agree with Rockeye, but more about your not capitalizing the start of sentences.
If you want to emphasize things, there *are* other options besides all caps. Some people find excessive bold also annoying, so I would stick to italics or (if you want to stay plaintext compatible) asterisks.

Re: Solving Batman Plot
Also, as for the actual content: I don’t know about movie canon, but in glowfic Gotham tends to exist alongside NYC, not replace it. That is definitely the case in Origin (with the Joker), and I think also the case with the other Gotham Jokers we have seen so far (Ghosty, Queenie, and Felicity).
Re: Solving Batman Plot
i am going to remind you guys that i have been bouncing in and out of the hospital, recently spent nine days in a coma, and am really, really drugged. you're lucky i'm typing in English
i know that *most* of the Glowfics have Gotham and New York, both. it doesn't necessarily follow that this 'verse follows that. hence my asking.
