I'll agree with the Devil, but I'd much rather draw the Hanged Man than either the Devil or the Tower. Remember, he hangs from his foot, not his neck: he represents sacrifice and stasis, not execution.

Yeah, but "Sacrifice" is generally a not-nice thing.
How much have you worked things out already? :)
Sorry for my bad english

I have much spoilers, which I am currently feeding to the spoiler-hungry Kappa.

Quoting Kappachat:
The details of powers etc are all worked out: there are five broad 'classes' you pick from, each with different drawbacks/benefits.

The universe is done in broad strokes: I know what went wrong and why, and I have good ideas for details of the setting. The starting default is a megalopolis, with weird mish-mash tech. Personal transport is horse-and-carriage, but there are also maglev trains for public transport.

Some people claim that a black tower appears in the centre of the city at midnight, but most people are totally unable to see it: various horrors lurk at the periphery, but it's totally possible to live out your life without ever meeting one, even if you were kidnapped. Only those who start asking questions about the supernatural are likely to encounter the Evils. (Yes, capital-E, they're actually metaphysically made out of hatred because the rules of the universe dictate that it be so.)

The reason for the kidnappings: the Evils want to destroy the world. After their ninth or so failed apocalypse, they decided to try something more subtle- to break the world by introducing people that didn't belong in it. They use the Tarot cards for their own inscrutable reasons, which are a spoiler.

There are further spoilers about why the Evils exist, what the Tower is, the structure of the universe, why the Tarot cards, etc.

Does it make a difference if you choose cards reversed instead of upright? I know approximately nothing about Tarot, but Googling indicates that’s a thing.

Nope.

The Evils are just using them because they're occult and mysterious: the choice is only vaguely related to the cards.

The two Horrible Thing threads so far seem to have the same five cards offered to all three characters. Is it always these five cards, or can you say more about why we're seeing these five only?

These shadows are like Kyubey meets Terraria guides with a reluctance/malevolence I can't quite place. Also, impatience.

Oh man, that is a brilliant description, and not only is it brilliant, it's accurate. My favorite thing, hilarious accuracy.

Both Kyubey and guides are in agreement with the rules they follow, or do not have enough of a self to disagree; these creatures are not like that.

It is always these five cards: the Tarot-card representation is only tangentially related to the choice, to be honest.

That said, people have been bugging me for MORE OPTIONS so I will likely make more once I get bored of this set - but I've put some significant detail into these, so adding more will likely take time.

It will always be a choice of five cards: Lilim/The Hanged Man, Kukla/The Hermit and Cambiare/The Fool are the cards most likely to stay, of the current set. Majokko/The Empress might be a little too good (or too obviously 'least bad'), and Fianna/The Chariot is being consistently sorted as the worst option. We'll see if that pattern holds, though.
