If it is in the original Doyle, I would have expected Sherlocks who name themselves from that source to use that full name. I am pretty sure it’s not in the original Doyle, though; I searched an omnibus collection for both “William” and “Scott” and didn’t find any that seemed to refer to Holmes.

Is the Simurgh's ability to copy powers known to the world at the time of Coruscation? For some reason I thought that was figured out later, and at this point they just thought she was a tinker (plus her other powers).

Probably not.

“How the fuck is she not a tinker!?” Krouse shouted.

“She isn’t!” Jess called back. “She’s never done anything like this before!”
So she not only isn't known to be copying tinker tech, she also hasn't been seen making it at all. Copy or otherwise. (As far as cape geeks on Aleph in 2009 know.)

But Glam and Lorica's conversation makes sense either way. Glam has reasons to expect the gun to be inimitable, and what Lorica actually meant was safely something else.

In the Promise in Sunnydale thread, I’m trying to imagine when Promise eventually meets Royal’s Watcher. For some reason, I keep getting hung up on a single aspect of the meeting: his obvious nickname has already been taken.

What’s happening with the body swapping? They should still be trying to solve that, and it is more urgent than most of the fairy-related stuff they’re doing. Is it just quietly being solved in the background? I expected the solution would involve Promise ordering the mom to not do nonconsensual body swaps any more.

Also, if Promise got much more involved in that storyline she would probably encounter cheerleading. What would her reaction to this very-mortal activity be, especially the spelling-heavy parts?

His obvious nickname...?

The body swapping has been taken care of offscreen by Royal, Castle, and Royal's Watcher.

Because he, too, takes every opportunity to drink tea?

Yes, his obvious nickname of Tea. In Effulgence, he went by “Giles” and “Rupert” for as long as possible before the template became Kingfishers, and he has no way of thinking of that particular nickname in this context. There is also no way he would go by Ripper.

In ialdae terms, does Castle (and her other Sunny alts) just have absurdly high Entanglement, even if it is nowhere near Matilda level? If not, what is it that caused chess magic to work?

Castle has high entanglement, and this allowed her to invent a magic system which relies on her high entanglement to function at maximum effectiveness. Chess magic will work for people with lower entanglement, sort of, but it won't be as flexible for them.

That is interesting, but I had not even considered that aspect yet so it wasn’t quite what I was asking. If she had had lower entanglement, would she have not been able to invent a magic system at all, or at least done a much worse job of it? Is there some other useful skill involved?

Have you decided on Promise’s stats in this system? It looks like she’s going to try it (instead of, say, hearing more stories about Danger and Magic Addiction), and she’s going to be trying a new system so the stats seem more relevant than for a random individual. At least she should be able to manage the resulting magic addiction even better than her Phaeton counterpart.
