I had gotten the impression that developing and learning spells were reasonably Wizard-ish.

D&D wizard spell development is unspecified in most of its details, requires expensive inks and specified numbers of pages and weird script, and takes fixed periods of time. "Learning" a spell just means having it available in a form you can read when you're prepping for the day; binders don't prep.

Is the Jarvis thread basically assuming that Adana summoned not-Cam in the save-the-moon-colony situation and died as part of the payment?

I didn't assume "died" but definitely "something awful".

She got not-Cam, saved the moon colony but was traumatically collected on, and then later died when the pirate lady got her and tried to make her summon another demon and she wouldn't.
