I include the original comment timestamp and he doesn’t. I would prefer to have both, but then the headers get more crowded.

I actually do now include the comment timestamp, below the post and after the edit time. I added it in this commit on the 31st December. :P

I think mine has decent .mobi support, if you convert it, but I haven't uploaded any .mobi formats. I'll do that soon, then, I suppose (probably through Calibre).

Edit: Oh, and I think I thought of a way to implement redundant branch-note removal (sorry for not doing it earlier)! I'll just do it now and see if it works.

Aaand, upon testing, it definitely fixed the redundant thing around here, and it says it's left all the other branches alone. It's running on Sandbox and Effulgence currently, but I'll upload them when they're done.

Okay, all the new copies have been uploaded: of Pixiethreads (though I don't think anything changed there), Incandescence (like one branch removed), Effulgence (7 redundant branches removed), and Sandbox (4 redundant branches removed).

They definitely seem to be working fine. They're all available at the Dropbox, like before (here). Regular branches seem to be working, redundant branches seem to have been collapsed into the main tree, and I have a list of the places it occurs!

For Effulgence, that’s the same set of comments as I get, so I’m both more confident that I found all of them and that you found all of them for the other books. I believe that you now implement all the features that I do, except for the known tradeoffs when it comes to large chapters.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a single font with all the Symbella symbols so that it would be possible to just embed that, and then we wouldn’t need to trust a reader to handle font fallback correctly.

Does anybody happen to have a good index of other glowfics and other sandboxes that I can make into epubs (with the authors' permission, of course, if I'm distributing them)?

Oh, and for that matter, I forgot to ask Aestrix and Kappa - is it okay if I do a pixiethreads epub? I mean, I already have, but I failed to ask, and I can remove it if you want; sorry.

I know there's this post, but I'm not sure how recently it was updated, and then there's this and this (with the actual list here), but that doesn't seem to have been updated very recently. I suppose I could go through the mini-notifications thread, discarding any duplicates, and there's this list by BlueSkySprite, but it would be easier if someone had made a more comprehensive index, or if someone has a meta-index.

P.S.: If anyone doesn't want their sandbox to display in the sandbox epub I've made (all links taken from Alicorn's list), just say and I'll remove them ASAP! I'm assuming that since people are posting on Dreamwidth, putting it publically online and without any ads, that they won't mind too much about ebooks being created, but I'd be happy to respect it (you know, since copyright and whatever, and I try not to be annoying) if people don't want me to redistribute it.

Pixiethreads epub is fine by me. So's an epub containing any and all of my publicly readable sandboxes.

I think there might be a gap between things that show up in the reader-updateable index and things that show up in the community, but there's quite a lot of sandboxes in the glowfic community that I don't think are listed elsewhere because the glowfic community collects them up pretty tidily all by itself: http://glowfic.dreamwidth.org/

Thanks! Maybe I should just go through that and add them to an epub in reverse order? I mean, provided people are okay with me making an epub of them, that is.

If people are okay with that, I'll probably start some time in the next week. It shouldn't take too long to set up.

I know it probably seems a little bit weird, considering everyone's already published it on a platform from which they probably get no revenue, and put it public for the world to see, but I'd still rather I don't offend anyone or something.

Oh, and I did an update to the program, so it should actually be able to run much more quickly (after the first time, when it'll have to redownload all the images; delete your "output" folder if you've already run it, DanielH). Rather convenient for me. Now the time spent is mainly copying it into calibre, generating a cover for it (really quick), adding the URL, converting it to EPUB2 (else Google Books doesn't seem to like it; not sure if anyone actually uses it, but oh well), making sure Calibre saves the metadata, then uploading it. Which, for the sandbox, considering it's about 50MB and I have like maybe 80kB/s upload, takes a while. x_x

The sandboxes are 50MB? I would have expected smaller; that’s on par with Effulgence, and it took a lot less time to read the sandboxes than Effulgence. I suppose there are both more sandboxes now and more diverse icons.

I'm not certain how long it took me to read Effulgence, but I've been reading the Sandboxes for like a month now, and by page count from Moon Reader, I'm a bit over halfway through.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's due to all the images. Here's what Calibre gives the sizes of the epubs as.
The Sandbox images when extracted, as of 2016/01/11 come to 45.6MB (50.1MB on disk), with the HTML files coming to 37.9MB (39.1MB on disk).
The Effulgence images, when extracted, come to 42.7MB (47.1MB), with the HTML files coming to 54.1MB (55.9MB on disk).

According to Windows, that is.
