On your birthday, you wear your birthday suit. Perfectly logical.

I wasn't going to comment on that possibility, but since you mentioned, it sounds great xDLambda wrote:On your birthday, you wear your birthday suit. Perfectly logical.
Also... if you want to take something from the game, maybe the clothes are "absorbed" by the aging magic and you get a suitable set of clothes that was previously absorbed.

It must be very important to tell your children exactly when they were born.

Well, it something that becomes certain beyond a shadow of doubt eventually.Unbitwise wrote:It must be very important to tell your children exactly when they were born.

I also like the birthday suit idea. Consider the various cultural possibilities for how modesty is handled (or possibly not), and that it occurs on six birthdays but not all of them.

Five if you're a Moonsinger, four if you're a Starspeaker.

~so many answers~

Also, I'm not totally convinced the geography in question will be planetary.
Is there anything special about being a four-way elemental?
The world doesn't have Earth's geography? or suspiciously similar substitutes?
- I don't know what you mean
- Not especially.
- I have figured out more stuff about geography and this is one of those Doesn't Even Have Planets worlds but I'll have to find a way to write up the cosmology sensibly later.
No. The born sky-kin cosmetic goodies are heritable but not transmitted via turning, so you only get them if you inherit them genetically.MaggieoftheOwls wrote:If both of your parents are turned sky-kin of the same variety, do you get the born sky-kin cosmetic goodies?
Throne3d wrote:Are there consequences to attempting to turn someone into something they can't be? Will they die, or get sick, or do they just happen to have an immunity to whatever provokes the change...?Kappa wrote:Re: late-turned sky-kin: I've been thinking about that! I made a chart, but I'm not completely satisfied with it. The current tentative paradigm is that you can't turn someone into a sky-kin when they're past that type of sky-kin's final phase. Elders can only be turned into Sunwalkers, Adults into Sunwalkers or Moonsingers.
Can elementals be turned into sky-kin?
Are there special effects when things of similar themes stack (e.g. Luminant and Sunwalker, since they both seem to involve 'light' thematically, do they get extra magic / extra benefits on top of the defaults)?
Can elementals have kids with sky-kin (e.g. Mirage / Starspeaker)?
Can hybrids and elementals have kids (e.g. Luminant/Moonsinger and Mirage)?
Are there restrictions on some pairings, like Luminant and Tenebrant, since they seem to potentially be opposites?
Do you have any idea of what types of magic are learnable? Do the affinities (e.g. Luminants and mind-magic) have any affect on how well they can do specific branches (or is the learnable magic not even that much, so it's not evident)?
Horrible question, but if you trapped someone in a box specific to their size, probably a Toddler, just before their birthday, what happens when they age up (and go from about 3 years old to 6 years old, I assume with the height change too)? Does they box break with the sudden height change, do they just not age up, do they just not get taller, or do they die because their neck was snapped or something when they attempted to grow (and we're assuming the box can stand up to certain stresses)? I mean, I'd hope this wouldn't happen or anything, but... I'm kinda curious about how it'd work.
Sorry for all the questions; I'm really interested in this setting! It seems cool.
- I haven't decided on the exact consequences of trying to turn into something you can't be.
- Elementals can definitely be turned into sky-kin. Anyone who is not already sky-kin can be turned into sky-kin.
- Stacking similar themes doesn't get you anywhere in particular, but if I fill out some of these people to have similar powers those will stack nicely.
- (three questions lead into this same answer) Any reproductively capable species in this setting can have kids with any other reproductively capable species.
- Learnable magics are separate from innate magics of the kinds I've been describing, and I haven't figured much out about them yet, but e.g. Dryads' affinity for plants will have obvious positive effects on their ability to do magical herbalism because plants are involved.
- I have not figured out what happens if you trap a Toddler in a small box just before their birthday. I feel like the magic will find a way to successfully complete the age-up without harming the individual, but as you increase the difficulty of doing that I'm not sure how it responds or when or how it might begin to fail.
Bluelantern wrote:Does change of species changes your personality?
Is there are special synergies that come with have multiple innate magics? Besides clever using things like mirages' and sylphs' powers to create visual and audio ilusions?
- No.
- Not especially, no.
You age up into clothes. Where do they come from? Who knows. What happens to the clothes you were previously wearing? Something convenient that I can't think of right now because it's one in the morning how did this happen I'm going to bed.Throne3d wrote:Yeah, assumedly clothes would change size when you age up, too? Could this be slightly abuseable to generate more of something, by shaping it into clothes, putting it on a Toddler, then having a larger result?Bluelantern wrote:How about the toddler's clothes?
Or do they all just break their clothes when they age up? That'd be awkward, but if it happens exactly X years after you were born, or at exactly noon on the day X years after you were born, etc., you'd probably be able to time it well and not have a wardrobe malfunction.

Re: Reified Sims thing
If toddlers aging up inside a box creates a lasting size problem (at least in some circumstances), then you can have Sim Miles.
