The place is nasty, but considering they devised a prison at all, does them credit.Ezra wrote:The Birdcage is so very far from being the least humane prison that the Worm parahumans could devise.

Yeah, it definitely is. That does not make it any more humane on an absolute scale, or any more necessary in a lot of cases.
Although I am curious how Lorica’s dad would be detained if necessary. He doesn’t need line-of-sight. I don’t remember what he does need, but I don’t think the Birdcage blocks that.

Oh, yeah. I am not saying it is humane, but spending what is likely billions of dollars to keep this people alive when many could be sentenced to death? Impressive.DanielH wrote:Yeah, it definitely is. That does not make it any more humane on an absolute scale, or any more necessary in a lot of cases.
Of course, the real reason is that cauldron manipulated things so the prisoners could be later be used against Scion, but Promise doesn't know that.
The birdcage has a space distortion effect, from the outside the prison is the size of a tennis ball inside a hollow out mountain. Teleporters just can't go far enough, and then teleport to hard vacuum filled with robot drones.DanielH wrote:Although I am curious how Lorica’s dad would be detained if necessary. Re: Sandbox Discussions
The thing Lorica made out of her cellphone to get his attention when she triggered transmitted a radio signal of some sort, the description read to me like his sense for that was more a way to get his bearings after jumping than a requirement to jump at all, but either way tinkertech sending him a jamming signal that blocks his jumps sounds plausible, at least for values of plausible relevant to the sort things tinkers get to make.DanielH wrote:Although I am curious how Lorica’s dad would be detained if necessary. You know... I am completely failing to imagine Charlie on a prison-type setting of any kind. I just have no idea how to model him in such situation, it is so not-Charlie.

Yeah, me too. That’s why I only asked about other people’s behavior in that setting.
I thought the signal was not disorienting, even if it wouldn’t help him orient. I had forgotten some of the standard defenses, and I don’t remember his limitations enough to know if they’d help.
Let’s see… I assume their is no way to contain a determined mint unless they can remove pain perception, daeva and Limboites have Brute ratings so far off the charts they can just ignore most of the defenses, and freecasting is a Mover power they could not have known to anticipate and couldn’t counter without anticipating. Promise would be forcefed first, and then would be trivial to keep indefinitely (although not forever; it’s such a long time). I don't know how to judge Rockeye’s witches but suspect they are easily containable in the Birdcage. Any other outside-universe powers with potentially interesting interactions?

Portalbold would be hard to keep. I don't remember if the shrinking effect had to be intentionally undone, but that wouldn't actually stop her from leaving even if it did.

Flicker, Rainbow mage teleporters, Apparation-capable wixen, and hexed teleporters could get out. According to Nemo leaving the affected area is enough to stop being tiny; Khepri goes in and out with portals. An enchanter could get out, if they knew enough about the structure of the place to construct a spell. An elfmage could probably get out. A sphinx who knew how to aim their Do Anything Magic could get out. A Momentum sorc' with enough momentum could get out no problem, and "enough" isn't even that big if all they have to do is make a hole in the wall, survive explosions and vacuum, and go through the outside of the mountain.
...And now I'm imagining a servantmaker stealing Dragon's drones and puppeting them. Probably wouldn't actually work very well though.

If it's even possible for Dragon to let anyone out a mutant telepath might be able to make her do it, given enough time to learn to "read" her extremely nonstandard brain.

My Witches would, indeed, be easily containable in the birdcage. Except Lytee, who has teleporting as her special.
