Weekly Movie Night!
Weekly Movie Night!
Would anyone be interested in doing a weekly movie night on Saturdays? I'm working on planning something like that for myself, and it doesn't seem like it'd be that much more work to post enough info for us to watch whatever thing together and do IRC at the same time, or use one of the group video watching apps. (I have yet to find an app that doesn't assume you want to do video chat, and I really don't, but I can keep looking and/or disable that bit for myself if other people want it.)

Neat. I might drop in to watch once in a while if it was on at a time that worked for me and the movie seemed like something I wanted to watch.

MyCircle.TV does not assume you want video chat. It's kind of janky but functional.

I'm theoretically interested! Can't say I'll always have time, but I can try!

I'd be interested, but I am usually busy on Saturday afternoons.

I am interested in theory but probably not usually practice.
I haven’t looked through the full schedule, but for just the first one: there are multiple versions of the Planet Earth documentaries; which one were you thinking of using?

This seems to require that I buy something if I want to use my own movie files.PlainDealingVillain wrote:MyCircle.TV does not assume you want video chat. It's kind of janky but functional.
The 2006 TV series that I linked to. I haven't watched any of the versions, though; I could pretty easily be talked into switching to something else.DanielH wrote:I am interested in theory but probably not usually practice.

What times would work best for everyone? I'm thinking end by 10pm eastern/7pm pacific so we don't run past peoples' bedtimes, but if there's a bunch of people on the west coast or the east coasters can stay up a little later, later might work better overall.
(For one-movie weeks I can do two showings, I guess? If we do need two showings.... hmm... this gets complicated but I think I can do two showings of two movies on the same day - cut out one or two of the TV marathons and there's probably room for everything else on the calendar? Might need to double up a couple more of the thematically-compatible movies, but that's probably not a big deal... how does one run from 6-10 eastern and another run from 7-11 pacific sound? For movie pairs that run over 4 hours the first showing would start early and the second showing would end late.)

I think critical mass might be important for this, and you’re more likely to get that with one time that some people can’t fit in their schedules than with two showings that would split the interested parties. My Saturday evenings will be relatively free and I’ll try to watch at least sometimes whatever the schedule is.
What I meant was that there is a BBC version of Planet Earth, but they also sold broadcasting rights to Discovery and Discovery made a lot of changes, and the same thing might have happened other times.
You don’t seem to have scheduled anything for the fifth Saturdays of January, April, July, October, and December. Was this deliberate? I think it might be a good idea to leave some buffer room in the schedule, and this seems like as good a way as any to give a 10% buffer.

Re: Weekly Movie Night?
The idea is that the calendar is supposed to be reused every year, and the extra Saturdays won't always be in the same months. Having some buffer room and the opportunity to add arbitrary movies if we don't need it is a good thing, though, yeah. :)
I appear to have the BBC version of Planet Earth.
If we do do one showing, what time works best for everyone? I'm also flexible.
