I approve of this fluff, although if you’d asked me 10 minutes ago whether forcing an Adarin to marry could qualify as “fluff”, I would have said no. At least this time everybody is clear on who is forcing this marriage, so it’ll work out far better than with Edarial and Iobel.

Also, Darius can actually back out of this if he wants to! So he's not being forced to marry. Just, you know, God told him to.

I mean, he doesn't *know* that he can back out. If he did back out, or look like he wanted to very badly, Alleya would cover that for him, but as long as he's willing to trust Jovah, as far as he knows he has to marry Isabella and sing the Gloria or the world ends...

Does the Jehova care if the angelica/angelico is part of the Gloria?

What happens if the Archangel or their spouse dies—of backstabbing or natural causes—the day before the Gloria?

The angelico/angelica thing is actually not obligatory - either marrying them or having them sing at the Gloria.

Canon precedent for a sick angelica is "their daughter sings with Dad instead", so I assume similar stopgaps are available in similar cases. If the Archangel dies, the idea is that all the angels know all the masses, and anyone can be conscripted to pick one and the replacement Archangel will be able to step in.

Is there an out-of-universe reason other than “there are no other purple unicorns except Blueberry (wrong kind of unicorn) or e.g. Twilight Sparkle (wrong kind of purple)”?

Liselen ends up being sent because I am comfortable with him as a unicorn character and haven't invented any others in that world except for Tialle, who is dead.

In-character, he has the bad luck to keep being the closest available unicorn when the emergency occurs. And to some extent, his disposition is more suited to the task - he's a little brash, so when e.g. he needs to collect Tenathayan and get the two of them on a boat to the island as soon as possible, he can badger the elves into it faster than a politer unicorn might manage; and he clicks well with demonjoker, where a more traditionally-minded unicorn might have a harder time swallowing the whole Endarkened thing.
